Right clicking "monitor" only brings up

Scan for hardware changes

&

Properties , which has just got monitor in it

feeling very silly here.

Kayak - 09 Dec 2004 12:43 - 2704 of 11003

Try double clicking on Monitors to see if there any entries within it...

DocProc - 09 Dec 2004 12:43 - 2705 of 11003

"feeling very silly here"

Well Don't!!! :-)

Select (highlight) the pertinent Monitor and then right click. 'Uninstall' will present itself as one of a few choices.

maddoctor - 09 Dec 2004 12:48 - 2706 of 11003

Docproc , is that for uninstalling? and then do I reboot?

just been testing the 15" second screen with stockwatch and doing the same thing.

DocProc - 09 Dec 2004 12:52 - 2707 of 11003

Having uninstalled, yes, just re-boot.

Windows will find any hardware, prompting you to merely assist if necessary, in installing the driver. it's not too difficult really. You should be OK.

Quick question - I've got a matrox p750 for 3 screens. If you use the triple head you have to have the resolution set the same across all screens which is currently 1024x768 which is fine. I'm getting a new screen to replace the oldest one and the new screen says its resolution is 1280x1024. The question is - although it may not be using the new screen to its fullest capability is it still possible to set it at 1024x768 so that it will fit in with the other two in the set-up without knackering(all encompassing technical term!) the picture. Note - If your answer to the above says its ok then it will be an Iiyama E431S.

Thanks
Rob

DocProc - 09 Dec 2004 12:54 - 2709 of 11003

Should be OK. 1280x1024 would be the max you can set it to. There are bound to be other settings available and setuppable (technical term) through Windows.

It sounds to me as though your graphics card is having trouble keeping up with that resolution and refresh rate.

Did you use that resolution befor you got your new monitor? Have you tried reducing the resolution/colour depth/refresh rate? Has your graphics card got an analouge or digital output? Have you checked for the latest graphics driver?

Unfortunately changing the display settings will not get round the problem but it may help pinpoint the cause.

Robb - 09 Dec 2004 12:57 - 2711 of 11003

Doc - thanks.

Optimist - 09 Dec 2004 13:03 - 2712 of 11003

Robb

I have an older Iiyama 1280x1024 that runs fine at 1024 x 768.

I should check out the latest Matrox drivers though. I can't comment on your card but I use an older 4 port Matrox card and I can have different settings for each screen.

maddoctor - 09 Dec 2004 13:06 - 2713 of 11003

Docproc , just not coming up as you say , highlighting and right clicking does not bring up uninstall

Kayak , double clicking brings up nothing

Optimist , new machine with ATI x800 graphics card with agp and dvi outputs but have both screens as agp.

Robb - 09 Dec 2004 13:13 - 2714 of 11003

Optimist - thanks, will check drivers also.

Optimist - 09 Dec 2004 13:24 - 2715 of 11003

Maddoctor

If it is a twin screen card then disabling the other screen will reduce the load on the card and if that solves the problem try and borrow a DVI converter to see if it makes any difference.

There is a little + sign to the LHS of Monitor(s). Click on this first and then select your specific Monitor.

ie, Imagine you had three of them, all differerent makes. This would allow you to select the Sony instead of the Yamaha and just do the driver for the Sony.

maddoctor - 09 Dec 2004 13:40 - 2717 of 11003

docproc , see it now for uninstall but very reluctant to do it , especially as trouble shooter says the device is working OK

Kayak - 09 Dec 2004 13:43 - 2718 of 11003

It looks dangerous but that is the way to do it. Windows will always supply a default monitor if it can't install the right one, which is why you have something called 'monitor'. The default monitor is just a stab at it and may explain why it doesn't work properly.

However before uninstalling it I would look on the Dell site for a driver download so that you have the correct driver to give it if it can't find it on reboot.

DocProc - 09 Dec 2004 13:50 - 2719 of 11003

...and it's good experience.

maddoctor - 09 Dec 2004 13:50 - 2720 of 11003

Kayak , intended going to Dell to have a look , device manager does show two monitors

docproc "good experience" , I,m having enough "experience" with the trading

noticed the drivers listed are ms drivers , is this correct?

also just looked at the cd's for the monitors and says on front drivers. Should I have used the cd to install the monitors , very confused

Kayak - 09 Dec 2004 14:03 - 2721 of 11003

lol, they must have sent you the CDs for a reason :-))

They should work if you run them now. Afterwards you could see if the copy on the Dell site is newer.

maddoctor - 09 Dec 2004 14:06 - 2722 of 11003

kayak , maybe , but the "put together chart" said nothing about using the cd's , just connect to computer and fire up!!
