THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

If the economy is getting better explain the lower industrial production figures that came out 10 days ago.

And Hayses Monkey (cynic)the employment figure have been changed since labour left power.

The number of part timers is way up but they are counted as full time. The number of zero hours contracts is way up but they are counted as full time. The number of these crank self employed busineses are way up they work less than 10 hours per month, but they are counted as full time.

If we were to get a real figure ie, hours worked per reporting period the figure would show massive unemployment.

The trend is down the trend is fiddled, why on earth do you think that industrial output per worker is either level or falling if we were to beleive these fiddled figures.

GO ON EXPLAIN THAT.

Are people going into work a just twiddling their thumbs having tea breaks all day etc etc. Stop being silly.

I have no pretence to understanding how any figures are compiled ..... however, I certainly have a cynical view of most gov't produced numbers anywhere in the world, and fully accept that a system is often "adjusted" to benefit the incumbent ..... nevertheless, once that "enhanced" system has been in place for more than 12 months, then the trend it produces will be acceptably accurate.

btw, am I not correct in thinking that if you are self-employed, you cannot claim unemployment benefit anyway?

with regard to a growth in the self-employed (those who set up their own businesses), I am sure you are correct, but don't forget, there are a great many businesses - e.g. courier companies - whose "employees" are all obliged to be self-employed anyway.

that probably doesn't answer your question, but it's the best I can do .... so now try mine, as clearly you are much more number-savvy and au fait with political workings than I am

UK industry halfway through the second quarter. Industrial production was flat after a surprise fall in manufacturing output, but the underlying trend remained one of expansion. Furthermore, goods exports rose at the fastest trend rate since late-2011. The official data therefore support the view from the business surveys, which also indicate that UK industry is benefitting from rising exports. The PMI survey, for example, showed the strongest export gain for almost two years in June and the largest increase in manufacturing output for over two years.

Separate data meanwhile showed that exports of goods and services rose 0.6% in May, fuelled by a 1.5% increase in shipments of goods. Over the latest three months - a better guide to the underlying trend than the volatile monthly numbers - total exports rose 1.9% compared to the previous three months, the strongest rise since last September. Even more encouraging was the 2.7% increase in goods exports over the latest three-month period, which was the best performance since December 2011

I know it's pretty ephemeral, but what have the "business confidence" reports shown over say the last 3-4 months? ..... from our side, we have seen a huge increase in standard chemical business in Europe, Far East, Middle East and USA ..... it could be argued that we are (sometimes) better than the competition, but I am more inclined to believe - as indeed I have been broadcasting for a while - that world economies are picking up, from which uk will also benefit, for obvious reasons

UK business confidence reaches 13-month high

Business confidence in the UK is at its highest point since May last year, according to a new report.

The Optimism Index by the accountancy and business advisory firm BDO moved higher for the fifth consecutive month in June.

BDO said confidence in both services and manufacturing firms had increased.

No one on here owes anyone any answers. I never expect answers from the crazy left, so I don't bother to ask.

cynic - 17 Jul 2013 15:34 - 27322 of 81564

I have answered your post to the best of my ability, which I acknowledged was pretty low .... so if you like, no I can't, or at least not to your satisfaction, but that cannot be helped

my questions and issues raised were non-partisan, so why the problem for you to respond - sensibly would be nice?
