THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

If ever there was an oxymoron - Zimbabwean Election

cynic - 31 Jul 2013 08:09 - 27684 of 81564

can someone please tell me why there is such a strong (or is it media hype?) movement against fracking per se?

Stan - 31 Jul 2013 08:28 - 27685 of 81564

In this country, Water Course contamination and Earthquakes for starters.

cynic - 31 Jul 2013 08:35 - 27686 of 81564

imo, this is just the latest bandwagon on which the gullible public have jumped
protest about spoiling countryside, extra traffic, noise etc etc by all means, but i wonder how many of these local protesters have any proper understanding of fracking at all

Stan - 31 Jul 2013 08:38 - 27687 of 81564

"imo," Based on what exactly?

skinny - 31 Jul 2013 08:38 - 27688 of 81564

cynic - when you have free time, have a watch - Fracking: The New Energy Rush

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my water not to ignite near a naked flame!

cynic - 31 Jul 2013 08:43 - 27689 of 81564

"imo" based on the little i know about supplying kit for fracking in m/e, where ther process also involves hcl

"imo" because i am entitled to it, and also because the public are easily (mis)led

===========

many thanks skinny .... i'll try to have a look later

Labour widening the gap again.......

UK - YouGov/Sun poll: CON 34%, LAB 40%, LDEM 11%, UKIP 10%

Tories with Lynton Crosby and Lord Howell shooting themselves in the foot.

cynic - 31 Jul 2013 09:30 - 27693 of 81564

The Bank of England played a vital role in one of the darkest episodes in central banking history, facilitating the sale of gold looted by the Nazis after their invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1938

why should anyone be surprised?
there was a very strong pro-nazi following throughout the country ..... indeed, not so different today but now called nationalism, as of course was hitler's strap line

they have never paid the uk for the cost of saving them .
they should pay for the families who lost loved ones fighting to free them
as they hid under the tables

Tracking is another thing for activists to get her up about. The earthquake business is a minor problem.

Haystack - 31 Jul 2013 10:45 - 27696 of 81564

Latest populous poll, UKIP still down and Conservatives up.

Populus – CON 34%, LAB 39%, LDEM 11%, UKIP 8%

Haystack - 31 Jul 2013 10:48 - 27697 of 81564

The monthly ComRes poll for the Independent is out. Topline figures are CON 34%(+4), LAB 37%(+1), LDEM 10%(nc), UKIP 12%(-2). The three point Labour lead is the lowest ComRes have shown since last September, and the 34% for the Conservatives the highest since last November.

The latest ComRes phone poll for the Independent is out and is in line with the trends we’ve been seeing over the past weeks: the Ukip decline and the Tory recovery. The figures and changes on last month are in the chart above.

A 4% increase is outside the margin of error which suggests that real movement had taken place. The poll is not that far off the 36-36 ICM survey a couple of weeks back.

Pill linked to long life in mice

A diabetes pill has anti-ageing effects and extends the life of male mice, research suggests.

Scientists believe the drug, metformin, may mimic the effects of extreme calorie restriction.

This regime, which is based on eating a very low calorie diet, is thought to promote healthy ageing.
