Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

grannyboy - 08 Jun 2016 16:10 - 2803 of 12628

If you can believe him? cameron said in PMQ's that if the vote was to
LEAVE then that's what would happen and there wouldn't be any stitch up.

grannyboy - 08 Jun 2016 17:08 - 2804 of 12628

Ho dear..They've now given those who were leaving it till the last
minute to register two extra days.

It was stated the other day that there was still over 7 million eligible voters
not signed up.

It looks blatantly like a planned site crash to facilitate this extra two days
extension, simply because the LEAVE are starting to lead the polls.

The news was reporting on the crash last night and it showed you a counter
and through the day it was in the several thousands sign-ups and then around
10 o'clock it had dropped to the low hundreds, so the sign ups was tailing off.
And yet they find it necessary to extend by two days!!!!....

A paragraph from todays money morning, the last sentence speaks volumes when considering those advocating a Remain vote:-

The EU is a distant, inflexible, unaccountable bureaucratic body, which has suppressed the potential of many of its citizens. We should not be supporting it. Reforming such bodies from within is an impossible task. Better to hasten its demise, so we can start again. Such bodies don’t do anyone any favours – unless you happen to be working for them or receiving subsidy from them.

The ones wanting to sign up are mainly young people who are far more likely to vote IN. There has been several million voters signed up over the last five weeks.

iturama - 08 Jun 2016 17:51 - 2807 of 12628

You cannot be so definitive. Probably young but also EU nationals that are not on their local electoral register. Only guesswork.

When are you going to enlighten me about all those mining and exploration companies that you say have fled the TSX for London? Perhaps 5 that anyone has heard of? That can't be too difficult surely.

grannyboy - 08 Jun 2016 17:55 - 2808 of 12628

I wouldn't say 'wanting' to sign up, as i said in post 2804, the counter on
the electorial site was tailing off to the low hundreds, and they've had weeks
to sign up, The remainers will be rubbing their hands in glee..

will10 - 08 Jun 2016 18:11 - 2809 of 12628

Yipee!!!!

More time to sign up. ( rubbing my hands in glee)

Haystack - 08 Jun 2016 18:28 - 2810 of 12628

EU citizens do not have the vote, but many have been sent polling cards and postal votes.

Haystack - 08 Jun 2016 18:50 - 2811 of 12628

iturama
The majority of those signing up yesterday were young people from government stats.

MaxK - 08 Jun 2016 19:25 - 2812 of 12628

The private polls must be frightening the bejeezus out of the remains.

Why else extend the voting registrations time in the hope of gaining a few more?

Haystack - 08 Jun 2016 19:57 - 2813 of 12628

Because the Electoral Commission virtually insisted on it.

iturama - 08 Jun 2016 20:05 - 2814 of 12628

My bad, I should have said residents from the Commonwealth. Let's hope the majority of the young now registering were inspired by Nigel and saw through our Dave's waffle like the young woman in his Sky effort. :-)

will might like to see what he is yippee-ing about before he sticks his neck on the block.

It's getting worse, and altho blighty's banks are hardly whiter than white, there is some chance compared to the €urozone institutions.

Watch DB.

Haystack "Because the Electoral Commission virtually insisted on it"

I've looked for some reference to that statement but i can't find any..

The only reference i can find is this....

The government following discussions with the Electoral Commission,
and strong cross party support will extend the ability to register for 48 hours.

It was that weasel tim farron and 3 lives corbyn with the full backing of
Downing st that 'arranged' the extension...

grannyboy - 08 Jun 2016 22:51 - 2817 of 12628

You can tell the remainers are really worried....They've been trying to
belittle Nigel Farage all day, it would appear they've reverted to type,
because NF gets through to the ordinary man/woman in the street..

Haystack - 08 Jun 2016 22:59 - 2818 of 12628

The Guardian, Mirror and Financial Times.

A commission spokesperson said: “There will be many people who wanted to register to vote last night and were not able to. We have said to the government this morning they should consider options for introducing legislation as soon as possible that would extend the deadline.

Electoral Commission says voter registration deadline should be extended after website crashed

Britain’s electoral watchdog called for the government to extend the window for registration, which shut on Tuesday evening. It comes after a surge in applications caused the government’s website to crash last night.

Anyone watch Andrew Neil grilling Osbourne on BBC yesteterday. Imo Osbourne came across as a right lying twat.

That interview won't have done the remain side any favours.

Dil - 09 Jun 2016 08:39 - 2820 of 12628

Some of the millions registering to vote recently won't even be able to vote. Some like my daughter will have received letters to register as their 18th birthday falls within the next year.

I've spoken to many people over the in out issue and all bar one are in favour of out. The under 25's I've spoken to besides my kids have all said they won't be voting except two and they will be voting out because 'my dad told me to'.

One 19 year old last night asked me if it's true that we won't be able to buy Milky Stars if we vote out because it says on the packet 'not to be sold outside EU' (there's a picture on Twitter she showed me ). Bless her :)

cynic - 09 Jun 2016 08:40 - 2821 of 12628

for a change it is a matter of FACT that remain mps outnumber brexiters about 5/2

MaxK - 09 Jun 2016 08:45 - 2822 of 12628

Not hard to see why c, most of them are troughers and wont wander too far from the manna.
