Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Skinny.
Utopia - will never happen!
Agreed, but you can move nearer to it.
As a little boy I can remember many saying that Everest will never be climbed.
Then along came Hillary.
(The nice one.)

Tanker,
I would suggest, that if one "asks" the Arab League for help, rather than telling them what they "SHOULD" do, they may be helpful and constructive.
(A long time ago, when I was told by somebody what they thought their "rights" were, I often asked whether their rights included mine. )

Ironies of history: last time a UK PM was defeated on a war motion was 1782, when MPs voted to stop fighting American war of independence.

Parliament made a good decision in 1782?
I knew they had done it sometime, or other.

It is the first time since the 1956 Suez crisis that an opposition has failed to support Government plans for a deployment of the armed forces.

U.K. consumer confidence rose to the highest in almost four years this month as the strengthening economy made Britons more inclined to spend than at any time since 2010.
A consumer sentiment index by GfK NOP Ltd. rose 3 points to minus 13, the highest since October 2009, the London-based group said in a report published today. A gauge based on whether consumers think now is the right time to make major purchases climbed 5 points to minus 16, the highest since December 2010.
Economic growth accelerated to 0.7 percent in the three months through June and manufacturing and services indexes have strengthened this quarter. The British Chambers of Commerce raised its forecasts today and said gross domestic product will increase 1.3 percent this year, up from 0.9 percent previously.

Cameron has shown the complete opposite of arrogance, which is what he is so often accused of on this thread, he has accepted the defeat of his point of view with grace and humility.
Milliband, on the other hand, squirmed his way onto the winning side as soon as he could see defeat staring him in the face.
And so we will become a nation of Hand Wringers.

A sweeping generalization, is one in which there seems to be sufficient evidence offered to draw a conclusion, but the conclusion drawn far exceeds what the evidence supports.
Another way to define a sweeping generalization is "when you apply a general rule to a specific case."

Skinny,
1956
That was a tory government as well.
======
Acer,
Cameron showed his arrogancy and assumed he would win the vote without waiting for the "evidence" and appraising it.
He was posturing and grandstanding as a World leader, instead of appraising the problems appropriately. He was jumping on the pedestal and cynically using the situation for internal political reasons.
Miliband, didn't propose not to support USA or Intervention in Syria, but to await the "evidence" and UN decision.
The barbarities of similar nature have happening in Syria for over 2 years and longer.
The UK does not have the muscle or economy to support the grandiose proposals of the present government.
I think it is necessary to accept we are a declining economic and military power
That is why a strong reformed UN is necessary.
-------
Camoron may not be wrong in thinking intervention would be beneficial, but the when and how and afterwards has not been thought out and his approach seems to me to be based on elitist arrogance of knowing what is right for "others".
