THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Don't forget the Labour rebels.

skinny - 30 Aug 2013 10:08 - 28404 of 81564

It is the first time since the 1956 Suez crisis that an opposition has failed to support Government plans for a deployment of the armed forces.

U.K. consumer confidence rose to the highest in almost four years this month as the strengthening economy made Britons more inclined to spend than at any time since 2010.

A consumer sentiment index by GfK NOP Ltd. rose 3 points to minus 13, the highest since October 2009, the London-based group said in a report published today. A gauge based on whether consumers think now is the right time to make major purchases climbed 5 points to minus 16, the highest since December 2010.

Economic growth accelerated to 0.7 percent in the three months through June and manufacturing and services indexes have strengthened this quarter. The British Chambers of Commerce raised its forecasts today and said gross domestic product will increase 1.3 percent this year, up from 0.9 percent previously.

Cameron has shown the complete opposite of arrogance, which is what he is so often accused of on this thread, he has accepted the defeat of his point of view with grace and humility.
Milliband, on the other hand, squirmed his way onto the winning side as soon as he could see defeat staring him in the face.
And so we will become a nation of Hand Wringers.

Teenage couple on first holiday abroad without parents confronted by armed police in row over dirty hand towels
Francesca Stefanyszyn, and Ged Sykes had no money to pay for damage
They had used the towels to lie on in a Krakow park

Staff at hotel called police over 'the lightly mud-marked towels'
go in any pub were they drink and you will find out

A sweeping generalization, is one in which there seems to be sufficient evidence offered to draw a conclusion, but the conclusion drawn far exceeds what the evidence supports.

Another way to define a sweeping generalization is "when you apply a general rule to a specific case."

Mileiband has weakened himself internationally, the French hate him now and he’s got no chance of building an alliance with the US Democratic Party.

TANKER - 30 Aug 2013 10:26 - 28410 of 81564

skin . from the press .

TANKER - 30 Aug 2013 10:28 - 28411 of 81564

hay are you saying you have to be a WAR MONGER TO BE FRIENDS WITH THE YANKS

Fred1new - 30 Aug 2013 10:28 - 28412 of 81564

Skinny,

1956

That was a tory government as well.

======
Acer,

Cameron showed his arrogancy and assumed he would win the vote without waiting for the "evidence" and appraising it.

He was posturing and grandstanding as a World leader, instead of appraising the problems appropriately. He was jumping on the pedestal and cynically using the situation for internal political reasons.

Miliband, didn't propose not to support USA or Intervention in Syria, but to await the "evidence" and UN decision.

The barbarities of similar nature have happening in Syria for over 2 years and longer.

The UK does not have the muscle or economy to support the grandiose proposals of the present government.

I think it is necessary to accept we are a declining economic and military power

That is why a strong reformed UN is necessary.

-------

Camoron may not be wrong in thinking intervention would be beneficial, but the when and how and afterwards has not been thought out and his approach seems to me to be based on elitist arrogance of knowing what is right for "others".

Haystack - 30 Aug 2013 10:30 - 28413 of 81564

France is saying attack could be by Wednesday.

TANKER - 30 Aug 2013 10:31 - 28414 of 81564

the big question why does CAMERON SUPPORT THE YANKS ON HELPING THE TERRORISTS IN SYRIA THEY ARE TERRORISTS AND NOTHING ELSE AND DROPPED THE GAS .IT WAS NOT THE SYRIAN ARMY .
WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING THE TERRORISTS NOT HELPING THEM

TANKER - 30 Aug 2013 10:33 - 28415 of 81564

Germany rules out any involvement against Syria

goldfinger - 30 Aug 2013 10:35 - 28416 of 81564

It just gets worse and worse.

The list of REBELS updates.

Nadine is their as is JOHN REDWOOD..........shocking. Gauke aswel.......oh dear.

Going to be internal troubles with the Tories for months now. Camoron will have to stand down looking at that list, they just dont trust him.

AUGUST 30TH, 2013

Full list of Tory Absentees
DfID Minister Alan Duncan Misses Vote as well as Greening

The number of Tory MPs to rebel was more than double the majority Dave lost his vote by, as was the number of Tory MPs who abstained or did no bother to show up to yesterday’s vote. Guido imagines that their excuses will be tested heavily today as the Whips and Downing Street try to work out how they got it so spectacularly wrong. Here is the full list:

Adam Afriyie
Henry Bellingham
Graham Brady
William Cash
Christopher Chope
Kenneth Clarke
Geoffrey Cox
Nadine Dorries
Alan Duncan
Nigel Evans
David Gauke
Justine Greening
Alan Haselhurst
Chris Kelly
Pauline Latham
Edward Leigh
Charlotte Leslie
Ian Liddell-Grainger
Jack Lopresti
Anne Main
Patrick Mercer
Jesse Norman
James Paice
Priti Patel
John Redwood
Andrew Rosindell
David Ruffley
Mark Simmonds
Rory Stewart
David Tredinnick
Andrew Tyrie
Bill Wiggin
Tim Yeo

There are some obvious names on there for ill-health but some notable future leadership contenders like Jesse Norman, Rory Stewart are Priti Patel stick out. As does Justine Greening’s deputy at International Development Alan Duncan. Greening is in all sorts of trouble for “not hearing” the division bell, but it looks even weirder that her junior minister did not turn up either. Curious…

skinny - 30 Aug 2013 10:35 - 28417 of 81564

Fred - I know - the point I was making is that the press and more so twitter - is often taken as gospel.

Haystack - 30 Aug 2013 10:43 - 28418 of 81564

The reason that the number of rebels is more than the margin the vote was lost by is because Labour MPs voted with the government.

Fred1new - 30 Aug 2013 10:44 - 28419 of 81564

Skinny,

I know, and was baiting.

--------

Recall the build up to Suez and was hitching hiking in the Midlands when it blue up and America thinking it was not in their interest to support their "allies".

Actually, a bad decision by Eden, who until then had had a large amount of respect.

But, his decision then may have been influential on M.E. developments after that.
