How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

It's time to add my thoughts on the French Open.

Luckily for me I wasn't on the Agassi game.I had it on the live scoreboard and knew something was wrong as soon as the games were going against him thick and fast! If only I had the benefit of TV pictures I would have been grabbing at the free money! Apparently, there were lots of it!

Personally, I'm not too keen on backing any of the Yanks on clay. It's just not their preferred surface. Although Agassi was seeded 6 he seemed to be struggling from the outset. Roddick, seeded 2, will come a cropper as soon as he faces a half decent clay specialist, therefore, a good lay candidate later on.

IMO, the big 3 in the mens are Federer(1), Nadal(4)- The Spanish teenage sensation and Coria(3). Fed and Nadal are in super hot form leading up to the Open and if all goes well will meet in the semis, the winner of which should take the title.

I've piled into Fed to win at 3.55 but will hedge my bet during the latter stages by either greening up later or allow to run. Nadal can still be picked up at 4.6. Odds are good to hedge as both these guys odds were 1.03/1.04 yesterday, although, this will change as the rounds progress.

Regarding the girls, Henin is the favourite having won 2 recent tournaments prior to this. She's only seeded 10 as she's just been back from a long spell of injury. Threats in her half of the draw are Sharapova(2) and Mauresmo(3).
Sharapova seemed to struggle today and Mauresmo is too inconsistent and past it! On her day, Henin can beat both.

I hope the above is useful to you guys out there but I will try to post the games I'll be on over the next 2 weeks.

Thanks bak. Trying to get really involved in this tournamment in practice for Wimbledon.

John

Sharapova game would have fitted your theory nicely today

Wonderful drifter in the 20:15, Lutin Du Moulin. From 1.80's to late 2.30's

Scripophilist - 24 May 2005 20:19 - 2863 of 10502

There were rumours on the Betfair forum before the game that Agassi was not fit enough to play. Often laying the heavy favourite in Tennis appears to be a worthwhile tactic but I guess it helps if you really know the form.

Steve,

Good. Of the three I've looked at, all have turned it around. Might be worth me doing some real research so I can get % likelihood of it occuring etc.

Trouble is I'm not sure who was and wasn't a seed. A lot of digging required I think.

managed to catch Lutin Du Moulin - saying that the layers got their fingers bitten as it won (having been as large as about 6.4 in running)

Just drifted over to US horse racing. Volume is creeping up but still pretty small fry. About 30k traded on the 22:00.

Harlosh,

To save you digging around the website for the French open is

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/scores/index.html

This will take you directly to the live scoreboard but you'll also be able to access the seedings, draw etc.

I'll dig out other useful links later.

I'm currently on Nalbandian game

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 11:13 - 2868 of 10502

More volume on the Williams game Bakko, 1.8m so far when I was there a few moments ago.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 11:17 - 2869 of 10502

Expecting a drab game this evening for the CL final. I can't see Liverpool coming out firing on all cylinders and Milan will know they have to penetrate an 11 man defence so I think they will play posession football and look for a way through.

i think the volume on the tennis is predominantly driven by which game Eurosport decide to televise - the williams game was on live

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 13:29 - 2871 of 10502

Another fantastic match underway. Henman vs Horna 1.8m traded lows odds turned over again.

Dil - 25 May 2005 13:41 - 2872 of 10502

Just lay Henman for every tournament , easy money :-)

bakko - 25 May 2005 13:42 - 2873 of 10502

Currently on the Henman game and ddds having been all over the place. Certainly not for the faint hearted.

I took some at 1.9 on Henman and will see how the game pans out. Horna, being S.American probably grew up on clay and seems quite an useful player.

Henman is predicted to win this but as usual will take you on a roller coaster ride!

bakko - 25 May 2005 13:46 - 2874 of 10502

Dil,

Should've taken your advice!

bakko - 25 May 2005 13:54 - 2875 of 10502

BTW, Clijsters is carrying an injury and has defied Dr's orders to pull out of the Open. She is playing later this afternoon and odds are 1.03/1.04. This could be worth a lay at these low odds as there's always the possibility of going lame!
