The main activity of Biofuels is the large scale production and exploitation of biodiesel and glycerine following the construction and commissioning of the initial plant.
Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils and, as an environmentally friendly product, can make a significant contribution towards reducing green house gases and meeting Kyoto targets.

Thank you for your response Bob
I take it Collins Stewart will be addressing his note on the cost issue to
the London Stock Exchange?
will the fuel be taxed in the same way diesel is or are you being offered
tax breaks because of the renewable nature of the fuel?
I understand there is a challenge to the patent surrounding the production
technology. Do you think this is going to become an issue?
.....and finally, supposing production were to increase in future years, are
the crops in limitless supply?
best regards
-------------------------------
ok dealing with your points:
the note if issued will be sent to Collins Stewart clients
the success relies on the 20p tax reduction on biodiesel
no we do not believe that the challenge even if successful will affect our
ability to grow.
probably not but as we are versatile we can use any crop
Hope this helps
Bob

Let's hope the government gives a further reduction in duty on the stuff.

Arable news
Call for biofuel tax breakSource: FWi 28 October 2004
By Julian Gairdner
GORDON BROWN must give the renewable fuels industry a bigger tax break on biodiesel if production from virgin rapeseed oil is to be economically viable.
Dominic Vincent of NEBiofuels said that a further 8p/litre duty rebate was needed, but admitted it was an uphill battle.
He said the cost at the forecourt of biodiesel from oilseed rape is 86.2p/litre based on a rapeseed price of 140/t, compared with the fossil fuel equivalent over the past 12 months of 78.4p/litre.
"We're doing what the Government wants: looking at new markets and creating environmental benefits and economic benefits for the north east," he said.
"But when you mention more subsidy and farmers in the same breath, ministers ask 'why?'."
Construction will soon begin on Teesside of a new 250,000t biodiesel plant, but without the tax rebate, the plant would look to used cooking oil and imported palm oil for feedstock, as opposed to oilseed rape.
The only alternative, said Mr Vincent, was for ministers to adopt a clause in the Energy Act 2004 forcing fuel companies to include a proportion of renewable fuel in their supplies.
Biodiesel cost p/litre
Refined virgin rape oil 29.5
Esterification 10.3
Duty 27.1
Distribution 6.5
VAT 12.8
Total 86.2

I think there's a lot more life left in this particular moggy though we might have to wait a few months till the plant is nearer to opening before it gets back up on its feet and starts miaowing again.

what is going on with the share price. I can see no news to excuse the volitility. Perhaps I should trade on the troughs and peaks. What is the point in building a new factory if it isn't going to be viable?
RD

Who said the factory isn't going to be viable?
I
n March the company said:
"Once the initial Plant is fully operational it is estimated, based on the
assumptions, that the Company could achieve an operating profit of up to 14
million before interest in a twelve month period. Excluding the impact of the
commodity hedge, this figure would be around 30 million."
The assumptions this is based on may have changed a little but there's no reason to assume we won't be looking at a healthy profit once the plant is up and running.

I agree that we may have to see some Biodiesel produced and sold before people warm to this one again. Until then, there may be many opportunities to pick this one up at a bargin.

That figure of 14m could be as low as 5m, this was told to me on the phone by the ceo

Well, even 5m profit would be better than most of the shares I seem to invest in!
I'm in this for the long term as I believe the biofuel sector has a strong future.
It's a shame the ceo wasn't as talkative with the Telegraph's journalist as he was to you, saying nothing to the press in this sort of situation has given a much more negative impression than coming clean witth the facts (however disappointing) would have done.
I trust Biofuels will issue detailed financial projections based on its new assumptions asap. then we'll have a much clearer picture of where we stand.
