Bunny's Beer Basement (BEER)

stockbunny - 30 Dec 2008 08:02

OK temporary accomodation for us ex-pats of Spacie's coffee house that is sadly now boarded up and in memory of Goldie's old pad the tearooms.

No fancy stuff, as this is temporary until we find a nice new place but it's warm down here with the fire and aga and I've organised a daily guinness, lager and wine delivery. There is a small kitchen in the corner and a few comfy cosy armchairs.

So feel free to take refuge when you need a break - self-service generally I'm afraid but when I can I'll rustle up a meal :>)

That'll be why they're bust then. Lazy sods.

Blimey the night shift has been in....

Much as I hate Athens i definitely don't hate Greeks, the ones I have worked and met with there over the last 7 years have been unfailingly professional hard working and very capable and really nice people.

The company I work for have now completed the sale of that business so I wont be seeing them again and I will miss them.

Its just the city that I cant stand ! its an odd mixture os modern european and third world, its also hot and dusty and a bit chaotic.

jeffmack - 17 Jul 2010 10:44 - 2879 of 4886

Off to Abu Dhabi tomorrow for the first 2 week stint of a 6 month contract.

Spaceman - 17 Jul 2010 10:48 - 2880 of 4886

Jeff, that will be hot at this time of the year. Sounds like an interesting contract.

You doing 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, they paying airfares? any other contracts out there ?

jeffmack - 17 Jul 2010 10:59 - 2881 of 4886

Tim
Not sure about on/off time. Probably work 2/3 weeks then home for a week. Not looking forward to heat but plus side is they are paying for us to stay at Sheriton Beach resort, so weekends should be fun. They pay all expenses, but will only fly economy rather than business which is a bummer.

Jeff,
Don't know if it has survived the modernisation
but there was a market place & souk on the creek.
Very lively place.
mac.

................but I like Guinness :-)

jeffmack - 17 Jul 2010 16:40 - 2884 of 4886

I havent had a guinness for some months. Bring it on Opto

tyketto - 18 Jul 2010 17:49 - 2885 of 4886

I havn't drunk it(won't even mention the name)
for more than 20 years, as it had deteriorated
so much from the original.
I believe its even worse nowadays.

optomistic - 19 Jul 2010 18:07 - 2886 of 4886

Guinness, Guinness, Guinness, Been off for the weekend Jeff, I'll fill the bar with the stuff. May have or may not have deteriated a bit tyketto but it's much more consistant than some of the stuff they are selling as ale nowadays.

MightyMicro - 19 Jul 2010 19:45 - 2887 of 4886

The Park Royal brew went years ago, as I recall. It's all brewed in Dublin now. Haven't drunk it in many a long year myself.

jeffmack - 19 Jul 2010 19:48 - 2888 of 4886

Just had a guinness in Abu Dhabi, give it 4 out of 0

kimoldfield - 19 Jul 2010 21:18 - 2889 of 4886

Ah! But was it good for you?!

tyketto - 20 Jul 2010 00:32 - 2890 of 4886

For some reason or other they've stopped issuing it in hospitals
many years ago.
Usually the brews you get abroad are tailored for the region.
I've had 11% in Gabon and the Cameroons, drunk at room temperature.
The far East stuff was undrinkable, even after freezing it. About 4% I think.
When they opened their first brewery abroad, in Lagos, after about 3
months the Nigerians boycotted it until they raised the strength from
from maidens water to about 5%. Again drunk at room temp.
Try drinking the current edition at 30C.

Spaceman - 20 Jul 2010 08:39 - 2891 of 4886

Yuk 30C Guiness.

I used to hate the stuff but got a taste for it when I was working in Ireland a few years ago, I dont have it very often now but the stuff I have had in the UK fairly recently tasted fine to me.
