Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Camoron, been labeled by a Rusky as 'an insignificant player from a small insignificant country'. Getting rather heated.......shame our Dave is on the bottom table feeling out of it with the Krauts.
What a HUMILIATION for him.
BUT he knows his place now.

Yes, I know Le Channel very well. In the tech boom, I used to go there with a friend for Sunday lunch. I introduced him to Mersault and Montrachet. We were were paying around £100 a bottle for some good bottles.

I have had several Porsches over the years, but the best handling was a 944 Turbo SE.

Cyners,
Imo, you'd be better off stopping of at Montreuil sur mer en route to the chunnel and dining at le Cocquempot. You'd easily be able to work off that third bottle of Pouilly uphill to Calais (30 mins in the Panamera, 3 hours on your tandem or 6 in Fishfinger's 2CV), or you could stay over in the town and enjoy a light lunch of fresh legs on toast at the Froggy Tavern on your way back.

i know montreuil as my parents used to stay there regularly, and it was a regular watering hole on earlier golf trips .... however, it is not an area that has much or even any appeal to us for our cycling
may go to the upper loire next year, but haven't even started to give it much thought at this juncture

hays - we too have been visiting le channle for about 10 years now, and the crespo family family continue to serve excellent food with interesting wines and delightful service .... unfortunately mme crespo was not there today as she had been allowed 2 days break by her son!

Next time you dine at Montreuil whistle for Dave.
He would probably love to serve you on his knees.
He will probably be out of work by then and able to take his time.

Proving to be right BILL on % rates. June 2014 my expectation..............
UK borrowing rates rise sharply
DAVY VIEW
With forward guidance something of a damp squib thus far, further good news on the UK economy today may reinforce the view that interest rates will rise before the MPC expects in 2016. The 10-year gilt yield rose above 3% yesterday for the first time since 2011, helped by the move in treasuries after better-than-expected US data, with markets expecting an interest rate rise by 2015.
Markets expect rate rise by 2015
With forward guidance something of a damp squib thus far, further good news on the economy today may reinforce the view that interest rates will rise before the MPC expects in 2016. Halifax house prices are expected to have risen 0.9% in July, with the annual growth rate surging to 4.6%. The 10-year gilt yield rose above 3% yesterday for the first time since 2011, helped by the move in treasuries after better-than-expected US data.
With markets expecting a rate rise by 2015, Carney now faces an uphill battle to quell expectations. Last week, we discussed the current slack in the labour market and relatively low levels of productivity in the UK. Since 2008, labour productivity has declined by 4.5% in the UK compared to a 0.3% rise in the euro-zone. The anomaly of employment rising through 2012 while output actually fell exacerbated the loss of productivity over that period. The MPC has banked on firms ramping up productivity rather than hiring more workers in formulating its conservative unemployment expectations. This is a sound assumption, particularly with 27% of the workforce currently in part-time positions. So unemployment may not fall below the 7% threshold before 2016, but inflation could outdo expectations.
Carney's explicit statement on the unemployment threshold 'knockouts' was well intentioned but has provided a boon to those who expect rates to rise before 2016 as the economy picks up. That 'knockout' is that the MPC will disregard the unemployment threshold if inflation is expected remain more than 0.5 percentage point above target in the medium term. The MPC has built in flexibility to its medium-term outlook with an 18- 24 month range for inflation expectations, but the governor may have been minded to follow President Draghi's 'less is more' approach to forward guidance.
