THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

The so called recovery is built on shit imo gf!

These people may have "jobs", but they are not real living wage jobs. Most appear to be part time or zero hour contracts.

Most people cant build a life on temp/part time incomes...as for buying a house..LOL.

Stan - 12 Sep 2013 09:29 - 29273 of 81564

Thought so Skinny, I nearly bought one from a work colleague about 20 years ago.

skinny - 12 Sep 2013 09:31 - 29274 of 81564

It was actually hired from a place that's not a million miles from 'Nunhead village'!

cynic - 12 Sep 2013 09:48 - 29275 of 81564

i'm amazed you numpties don't get bored out of your skulls - perhaps there's nothing in them - churning out variations of the same old crap day after day, week after week and even month after month

Stan - 12 Sep 2013 09:58 - 29276 of 81564

Oh Nunhead?... You mean the new Centre of the Earth -):

Stan - 12 Sep 2013 10:03 - 29277 of 81564

Here's our latest revamped Web Site of my pub http://ivyhousenunhead.com/

Do you like it?

skinny - 12 Sep 2013 10:05 - 29278 of 81564

The hire centre was actually opposite what was one of my favourite pubs - the Clock House - alas it has apparently been 'modernised'.

Acer - 12 Sep 2013 10:07 - 29279 of 81564

Yep Cynic, it is truly amazing. They sound like embryonic politicians, in practice for the day that they become the real thing.
Think the clue is in the thread title.

Haystack - 12 Sep 2013 10:18 - 29280 of 81564

Ed Miliband’s popularity has slumped to its lowest level ever – rivalling even Iain Duncan Smith’s appalling personal ratings during his disastrous spell as Tory leader.

The latest Ipsos MORI survey shows that six in ten British adults say they are dissatisfied with the Labour leader, compared to just 24 per cent who are satisfied.

His net satisfaction rate of minus 36 per cent is comparable with the low point of Mr Duncan Smith's leadership, eight months before he was ousted as by the Tory party in 2003.

Stan - 12 Sep 2013 10:18 - 29281 of 81564

"Have to agree with Baggydave.
The ale here is always warm and lifeless.
I thought it was just the Youngs beers, but I tried the Tribute (which I love) at the weekend and it was awful."

Skinny, That's a quote from the usually very reliable Beer in the Evening site, same old story when big business moves in and the short term thinking accountants get power and sway within the Company, quality diminishes sadly.

goldfinger - 12 Sep 2013 10:19 - 29282 of 81564

Acer, yep the biggest thread on the board. (check the stats)
The most visited thread on the board.

Must be something right. Must admit the Tory boys are a big bonus as the clowns bring in the punters.

Why dont you start a thread and lets see your stats.

cynic - 12 Sep 2013 10:21 - 29283 of 81564

who cares whether it's the biggest - except i suppose it massages your ego for no good reason ...... one could just as easily comment that it shows what a load of tripe is posted, primarily by <10 numpties

skinny - 12 Sep 2013 10:27 - 29284 of 81564

Stan - I've just checked a couple of pubs on that site and the postings all seem to be 2+ years old?

Stan - 12 Sep 2013 10:38 - 29285 of 81564

Yes that's true Skinny but unless we can actually try the place out then that's all we can go by, Big business outfits like Well & Young's (or is it the other way around)? Have plenty of capacity to update the details if they are that interested themselves, and if they want to dispute other peoples comments they can.

skinny - 12 Sep 2013 10:41 - 29286 of 81564

True - certainly where I grew up, we had some of the very finest Young's pubs (as previously discussed) and although I haven't been back to many of them for some years, I'm reliably informed that they are largely soulless and sell insipid beer.

goldfinger - 12 Sep 2013 10:43 - 29287 of 81564

Stan are we talking REAL ALE here?.

skinny - 12 Sep 2013 10:46 - 29288 of 81564

Is there any other?

goldfinger - 12 Sep 2013 10:57 - 29289 of 81564

Skinny was just going to say REAl Ale here in Yorkshire is a massive growth business.

At least 5 breweries ..............new ones set up and thriving in Huddersfield.

Even have a outdoor festival over a summer weekend promting it.

Fred1new - 12 Sep 2013 12:05 - 29290 of 81564

Cynic,

You could try and resuscitate the Diet thread you previously started.

It seemed to caused to much indigestion, and died its death.

"excuse me, but what does it matter what someone's background or place of education or any of those other nonsense labels which you muppets like to bandy around?"
=-=-==

As you do often, you seem to miss the point.

Many do not object to the existence of Public Schools, Privately run schools, etc, as long as they are not “subsidised” by the “state” and open to reasonable inspection by the “state” on “social conditions” and to “limited degree” on the content of courses.

I can see the “benefits” and the “necessity” for such institutions in certain circumstances and then state “support” seems indicated.

Also, understand the education at many of the Private sector education system has produced a great number of very successful “intellectuals, “entrepreneurs”, “statesmen”, “politicians”, etc. , who have given much to society in their own ways.

What I see is the real problem is that in the present government is not the presence of a few individuals from Eton or other “public schools” in the cabinet, but the overwhelming number of the members of the cabinet and government from one such “institution”.

(Why that is so, is open to questions.)

The government of UK is supposed to be representative of all factions in society, but the present cabal is obviously not so.

Unfortunately, this cabal is divorced from general society by the “fortunes of birth”, and general seclusion from the hoi polloi, during their incarceration in their institutes of “education”.

They tend to relate to its own ”history“, “ideals” of its own ”class” and unfortunately not to the history, “problems” and “expectations” of other groups ins society. They are shallow in understanding.

The problem is that they grow exposed to “narrow culture” and “ideology” and although many may challenge the “common beliefs” , the majority imbibes with a similar fervor as a that of “religious beliefs”.

The above does not necessarily apply to all products of public school and many have been social reformers, and useful members of a developing society.

Often, they have challenged what others around them except as “normal” standards.

The other problem, in that they belong to a “club” they may tend due to “indoctrination” cling together, if, or when, “corruption of one form, or another” is being practiced. (For the good of the group.)

I would not like to be governed by a "royal family".

goldfinger - 12 Sep 2013 12:34 - 29291 of 81564

LOL LOL LOL lOL LOL

Well out of touch like the Tory leadership.......what a pathetic statement to make....

Well what matters SPOON IN GOB BOY is this,

firstly and mostly YOU have access to far better teachers the normal kid in the street is not offered that chance.

And then lets face it you have genuine network opportunitys not offerd to normal kids .

If you ask the members of the present cabinet how many CVs or Application forms have you filled in they would look funny at you......thats the truth.

Its a case of If you stroke my back Ill stroke your back.

This country should be rid of this now. And I for one will go all out to end these privilege offered to snot nose rich kids.
