Agreed, but that is where "education" comes into play.

I don't mean the 3Rs , that seems a basic necessary in "modern" society or at the least it enables individuals to "expand" themselves more easily.

But part of "self responsibility" is introjected from other at an early age.

Those who don't exhibit these tendencies may not have, or had exposure those who did.

To get change, especially where the parents don't exhibit it, an effort could be built into the early on education "process".

(If you don't know, how this is done, have a look of the parents of those children who are succeeding and copy.)

Generally, by encouragement and reward without condemnation.

The wipers times was possibly the most interesting, enjoyable bits of viewing seen for a long time. BBC at its best.

I thought it was a good production and represented WW1 and the detachment and often "superiority" sometimes shown by those who thought they knew better.

Also, related the total incompetence of some of the military elite.

Also, if you look at that period you can see the reasons for the emerging strength and bloody mindedness of the unions in twenties, thirties and carried on post WW2 into 70 and 80s.

Well worth watching and humour took the bitterness out of the situation.

Reminded me of last episode of Black Adder and Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man by Siegfried Sassoon.

I see the Royal Mail union is balloting for a strikes bcauseof likely privatisation.

I fail see what business it is of the Royal Mail employees if it is to be privatised. They may well not like it but it is none of their business. There may well be job losses in the persuit of efficiency but that is probably a good thing. The unions have this misguided view that people have a right to a job. The reality is that the only right is the right to be left alone.

I agree - looks like they are afraid to loose their jobs. They do not own Royal Mail, in fact these days they are lucky to have a job, probably with a pension as well.
It looks to me like the Govt want to off load Royal Mail, and its related problems on some shareholders - OK, but I am not going to buy any shares and pick up government problems. I like to sleep easy.

No one sends letters anymore. The future is parcels. It needs to be run on a commercial footing with investment. Privatisation is the only realistic solution. There should be no businesses that are run by the state. The alternative is creeping socialism. That goes for the NHS as well.
