Dunno Stan but at least we had the sense to get him to sign a new 4 year contract a few months ago so we should be quids in if he does move on but would prefer him to stay.

Caulker and Medel will both go and to be honest neither were worth half of what we paid for them and the sooner Zaha goes the better.

Hope Fabio stays as he's got better as the season has gone on and would be good to have in the championship.

World Cup 2014: England manager Roy Hodgson should hold his nerve and commit to youth.
Although he has to think of the here and now when he names his 23-man squad on Monday, he must also plan for the future.

The biggest surprise in the England squad I would select for Brazil is the inclusion of Burnley striker Danny Ings. The 21-year-old is expected to be in Gareth Southgate's under-21 squad but his goals - 21 in the Championship this season - and more his all-round play means that Premier League clubs are already looking at him before he faces them next season.
Burnley may have a fight to keep Ings. Roy Hodgson has also run the rule over Ings and he is a contender for the Euro 2016 campaign, so why not use him now? I am a firm believer in giving youth its head and there is no point holding back Calum Chambers, John Stones, Luke Shaw, Jack Butland or Ross Barkley either. Hodgson has 23 players in a squad and there is scope to give younger ones the experience. They are all outstanding prospects."

Burnley are favourites to go down (no surprise there) but if they could hang on to Danny Ings and a fit again Sam Vokes then who knows, they might just be able to stay up for another season.

I doubt very much if Hodgson will pick DI as suggested above, which hopefully will increase the chances of him staying at BFC for at least a season.

This assumes that Dyche and his team will also stay of course.

An interesting summer to come.

Barkley named in England's World Cup squad

The inclusion of Ross Barkley in Roy Hodgson's 23-man England squad alongside Everton teammates Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines has been confirmed this afternoon.
The 20 year-old told evertontv of his delight at the decision saying it means "everything" to him and that it would be the best thing to have happened to him should he get to play in Brazil this summer.

John Stones has been ear-marked on the reserve list as a potential replacement for Manchester United's Phil Jones but will play for England U21s this summer if he isn't needed by the senior squad.

Jones, who injured his shoulder last week, will be given two weeks to prove his fitness.

Barkley's selection by Hodgson caps a remarkable transformation in the player's fortunes — last season he returned early from an unsuccessful loan spell at Leeds United after being frozen out of the first team by David Moyes and was overlooked for England U21s by Stuart Pearce, playing instead for England at the U20 World Cup.

Now, having enjoyed an explosive season for Everton under Roberto Martinez and won both the club's Young Player of the Season award and Goal of the Season awards, the local-born prodigy has booked his place for the game's showpiece tournament.

"I'd never have dreamed of [this]," Barkley said. "A year ago I was starting games. It's happened through hard work and I'm grateful for it.

"I've been pleased [with my form for Everton]. I've been progressing and I'm hoping that continues for a long time."

Sounds about right to me. I think Jags and Baines have both earned their places and Barkley could be England's wildcard option if things are not going according to plan (which is pretty much guaranteed). I think this tournament is too soon for Stones who needs to keep his focus on nailing down a first choice spot at Everton. Hopefully by the 2016 Euros Stones will be a regular for both club an country.
I wish them all the best of luck but I really can't see England doing much in this tournament. They always look so awkward, like pale shadows of their Premier League selves. The last time I felt confident about an England team was 1996 with Shearer and Sheringham up front.

I am praying Bill doesn't let Ross get on that plane before he signs a 5-year contract on big money. I know he will be reluctant to offer him a massive hike in wages given his age and relative inexperience, but if he doesn't and Ross sets the World Cup alight, there will be a long queue of clubs willing to tempt him with huge sums of money and champions league football. We've been here before. .

Dyke's England Commission Report

I'm not sure if this is really a subject that interests many on here, but I was too busy to see it last week and there was a fair amount of discussion on BBC 5Live at the weekend...

So what do people think of yet another set of proposals to shake up the structure of English Football to improve standards for the national squad? Greg Dyke's plan seems to be the latest in a long list as the FA searches in vain to revamp old glories...

The introduction of B teams, overhauling the work permit system and boosting the number of homegrown players in squads are among the proposals set out by FA Chairman Greg Dyke’s England Commission report.

In unveiling his FA Chairman’s England Commission Report, aimed at improving the Men’s Senior England team, Dyke set a target of increasing the current number of 66 English players playing regularly in the Premier League to 90 by 2022.

In order to achieve this, the Commission focused on the entire pathway for players to ensure they can develop to the best of their potential.

Along with introducing B teams and work permit reform, the Commission recommends creating new strategic loan partnering between clubs.

Important concerns for The FA around coaching and grassroots facilities are being addressed and will be reported on in more detail over the coming months, with the acknowledgement that much more work needs to be done.

Dyke said: "This decline is a problem in countries right across Europe but is a significantly bigger problem in England than anywhere else and if the trend continues we fear for the future of the English team. If this cannot be reversed, a future England manager will have fewer and fewer top level English players from which to choose.

"We want to continue to have the best foreign players playing in England and to strengthen the quality and excitement of the Premier League and the rest of English club football.

"But we also want to develop ways of giving more English boys the best chance of achieving their potential by enabling them to play football at the very highest level.

"We believe that this is not only in the best interests of the national team and the young English players themselves, but also in the interests of the professional football clubs who are spending millions of pounds on youth development programmes and are currently getting only a very limited return on their investment."

I can't find many comments posted on this last week, although we did not carry it as a story. I guess the B-team idea is the most interesting, but whether it will have the desired effect is a whole other matter. I haven't been able to find a link to the 80-page report that actually works, so I've only read the odd reprot in the newspapers...

I was going to add a story about it because Roberto came out in favour of Dyke's plans but didn't get time.
The FA are obviously focused on the England national team but RM clearly sees a need to find a proper solution to the issue of developing players in that gap between academy-level and first-team at Premier League teams.

I agree but find the idea of injecting B teams in the Football League, even if restricted to Leagues One and Two, to be utterly abhorrent and believe it would be massively destructive to the traditions of what is the world's best professional football pyramid.

There has to be a better self-contained B-team league system that doesn't result in displacing long-established lower league clubs out from the Football League purely for the benefit of the top two divisions and the much-maligned national team.

I'm not particularly impressed by the recommendations. None of them are about addressing the deeper problem of grassroots and youth football. Spain has about 12 times as many UEFA 'A' coaches as England. Germany about 5 times as many. It shows the greater emphasis those countries place on high quality coaching at all levels and all ages.
The B team idea seems half baked and badly thought out. It's a demonstration of consistent short termism, too, that after just a year or two of one new approach, suddenly it's time to change again. While the U-21 league may not be the best idea, it's hardly possible to say it is/isn't working based on such limited evidence.

Underlying this all is a deeper issue. All of the newspaper analysis of this report seem to take as accepted that the needs of the England team are primary. While Greg Dyke at the FA has to take that approach, I don't think that's really a universal truth!

Dyke's England Commission Report: Really lacks insight into what makes a football team tick. At Everton there is no problem of accelerating the progress of young players if they have the acquired skills to make it at Everton; it is just that the majority of young players at Everton just don't have it to succeed at premier league level.
In countries like Argentine and Brazil, there appears they have a production line of young players, who are so good, they are playing throughout the world in the Spanish, Italian, German and English leagues; while England have no players of any quality playing abroad. Except for Bale, who is Welsh. Even the Germans are exporting their better payers into the premier league.

Most kids today, who would have, generally, kicked a ball around the streets in the past, are more interested in the social media, computer games, smart phones and I phones; while many parents are happy their children are at home and not out on the streets, where they can't keep an eye on them.

Position? Daft taking Johnson in the first place, but only having Milner/Smalling/Jones as cover is bonkers; they are not right backs. Take Clyne over Lampard. Take Clyne and Chambers over Johnson and Lampard. Jones is an easy target because he plays for Manchester United and he also tends to be judged as a right back rather than an out of position centre.

KidA - Yes, that's a fair picture, but has grown in confidence. Against Man City he was immense. He has the ability to change a game. Just hope as mentioned above he goes to Brazil with a new five year contract to EFC.

After all the talk about Hodgson giving the youngsters a chance he decides that one of the most exciting players/goal scores in the Country Danny Ings doesn't get a sniff. And before anyone says "he's only played in the Championship" you better ask Southampton fans about that. In actual fact DI's non-selection may help Burnley keep him a little longer.

' Chelsea pay tribute to 'superb' fans with photo of Cardiff supporters '

Chelsea posted a photo of a section of supporters in full voice on their Facebook page on Monday as a token of the club's appreciation of the hordes of Blues fans who made the long trip across the border for their final game of the season against Cardiff City at the weekend.

The only problem being, of course, that the section of supporters in full voice in the photo were in fact Cardiff fans, singing their hearts out despite losing 1-2 to Jose Mourinho's rabble -- not that it stopped Chelsea from adding the caption "Superb away support as always" underneath the image.

Having been up for over 20 hours, it would appear that someone in the Chelsea media department finally noticed the gaffe and thus, the ever-so-slightly erroneous post has since been taken down.

Fortunately, we were on hand to nab a screenshot in the nick of time.
