Desire Petroleum are drilling in Falklands (DES)

free hit countersDesire Petroleum

<>Desire Petroleum plc (Desire) is a UK company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) dedicated to exploring for oil and gas in the North Falkland Basin.

Desire has recently completed a 6 well exploration programme. The Liz well encountered dry gas and gas condensate at 2 separate levels while other wells recorded shows.
Together with the Rockhopper Exploration Sea Lion oil discovery in the licence to the north, these wells have provided significant encouragement for the potential of the North Falkland Basin. The oil at Sea Lion is of particular interest as this has demonstrated that oil is trapped in potentially significant quantities in a fan sandstone on the east flank of the basin. It is believed that over 50% of this east flank play fairway is on Desire operated acreage.

Desire has now completed new 3D seismic acquisition which provides coverage over the east flank play, Ann, Pam and Helen prospects. The results from fast-track processing of priority areas are provided in the 2011 CPR. A farm-out to Rockhopper has been announced. The revised equities are shown on the licence map (subject to regulatory approval and completion of the farm-in well).

Great news from RKH

The Board of Rockhopper notes the recent announcement of 14 August 2008 by Desire Petroleum plc and welcomes Arcadia Petroleum Limited to the North Falkland Basin. The Board also notes the stated intention of Desire and Arcadia to drill a total of 4 wells between them. To this programme of 4 wells Rockhopper intends to add a minimum of 2 wells bringing the total number to 6 wells.

I agree Marky. This is all coming together for an important drilling campaign across the NFB which could have massive impacts if successful, including on our personal wealth!

Territorial disputes about to kick off again then?
Interesting to see that the Argentines can get a rig on site long before any of the Falkland explorers. That's the influence of Repsol presumably? Shame our guys couldn't source one more quickly.

markymar - 28 Aug 2008 09:30 - 2951 of 6492

Harry if you click on http://www.arcpet.co.uk/

Then click Arcadia then related companies you will see there should be no problems securing a rig in the near future,Repsol are small fry.

There are still a few boxes to tick with RKH then i think we get rig news.

From share mag today

All the Falklands-based
oil explorers have
suffered a backlash following
the $25 retreat
seen in a barrel of crude oil since
the highs of mid-July. Borders
& Southern Petroleum
(BOR:AIM), Desire Petroleum
(DES:AIM), Falkland Oil & Gas
(FOGL:AIM) and Rockhopper
Exploration (RKH:AIM) have
each fallen by between 25% and
50% since their record highs of
early summer. The markets cool
response to a pair of recent
strategic deals suggests it is better
to travel than arrive with
these stocks at least until
drilling is actually under way.
Last weeks announcement of
a farm-in partner on its Falkland
gas assets failed to stop the slide
in Desire Petroleum even though
the terms of the transaction are
more favourable than anyone
had a right to expect, with private
ship and rig firm Arcadias
identity as partner one of the
worst-kept secrets in the sector.
That the deal had been tentatively
announced in February may
not have helped but, with drilling
on the acreage in the north
Falklands basin only expected
next year, a catalyst for performance
remains difficult to find.

Confirmation of a rig and a firm
timetable are needed for the
stock to stoke up fresh interest.
Desires deal has a read across
for Rockhopper. The 53 million
cap will have to pay 15% of the
costs of one of the planned wells
for one of the prospects to earn a
7.5% share. It is likely to have to
go cap in hand to investors in
order to meet this commitment
and will probably seek to make
use of any rig Arcadia brings to
the region in order to drill its
own assets.
Falkland Oil & Gas, which
operates in the south Falklands
Basin, suffered a reaction even
more underwhelming than
Desire when it announced it had
brought BHP Billiton (BLT) on
board. This may have had something
to do with way the deal was
structured, as many observers
believe Falkland had been forced
to give up too much in terms of
its equity position.
It would be difficult to level
the same accusation at Desire.
Arcadia will carry the costs of
two wells, including the mobilisation
and de-mobilisation costs
associated with the programme.
Desire will retain a 57.5%
interest and will also drill two
wells itself.
