THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

angry not that often and if so very briefly or even fleetingly ..... telling it like it is - regularly

doodlebug4 - 18 Sep 2013 12:09 - 29495 of 81564

cynic, they could always call them - "recovery units for p--s heads". Just a suggestion!

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 12:10 - 29496 of 81564

drunk tanks says it in a nutshell and is also suitably belittling for the occupants

"angry not that often and if so very briefly or even fleetingly"... Not according to quite a lot of your posts on here sunbeam -):

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 12:27 - 29498 of 81564

your view .... just because i might call you a total arsehole doesn't mean i'm angry

Stan - 18 Sep 2013 13:04 - 29499 of 81564

Oh dear another defect… No sense of humour either.

doodlebug4 - 18 Sep 2013 13:18 - 29500 of 81564

I suppose it is a bit two-faced of me to be passing comments on "recovery units" when I bought some shares in BES earlier this week!:-)

goldfinger - 18 Sep 2013 13:54 - 29501 of 81564

These private recovery units are a stupid idea. Just like the bedroom tax those that cant pay and have nothing to lose wont pay.

All that will happen is arrears will build up just like the BTax and in the end the tax payer will end up bailing the offenders out.

Check with your local council and be suprised to be shocked just how much housing/C/tax arrears are building up at present.

Whats needed is fines on pub landlords (and I believe its against the law to sell ale to a drunk or let them get that way) and more coppers on the beat.

For once I agree. There are adequate laws to stop landlords selling drinks to drunk people. A couple of landlords losing their licences would send a shockwave through the licenced trade. I know an editor of a national daily and put this to him as far back as 10 years ago. He wanted to run a story based on it, but was stopped by the proprietors of the paper.

goldfinger - 18 Sep 2013 14:32 - 29504 of 81564

hmmmm glad I took you off filter Hays, your not such a bad stick after all. (cynic and hillary remain ON) , It just wouldnt be practical for these private companys.

Cant think the police chiefs have thought this through correctly mind its obviously CUTS that have led to a whole raft of hair brained ideas being touted by public organisations.

I suppose their are those at home who have overdone it home and need A@E treatment, but then again are they in most cases likely to be in a position where they can in essence pay a fine........ in a lot of cases I doubt it.

I agree with Hays clampdown hard on pub landlords and target off licences who sell ale to repeat binge drinkers.

Someone drunk would not be served or allowed to stay in a bar in most EU countries. Drunken behaviour is not a major problem in most other countries. The price of alcohol is not the problem as there are countries where alcohol is cheaper than here without the problems.

goldfinger - 18 Sep 2013 14:48 - 29507 of 81564

Yep and countries where its more expensive eg, Sweden and other nordic countries and not the problems we have.

I suppose we have to educate kids at school about the evils and social responsibilities expected in society.

Id also have 1 hour per week for older school kids where its integrated with say financial studies where children are taught about banking investing and the stock market.

I was lucky in that I did economics from O level and so learnt a lot their but the number of kids taking economics was very small indeed, I think we had 10 in the class and about 300 plus in my age group.

Unfortunately negative aspects rarely influence behaviour. Close down a few pubs serving drunks and the trade would have to clean up its act. At the moment these pubs and clubs are getting away with anything they want.

doodlebug4 - 18 Sep 2013 15:19 - 29510 of 81564

I think one of the main changes in our society is that there are so many teenage girls and women regularly getting drunk now, whereas it used to be mainly just blokes.

goldfinger - 18 Sep 2013 15:24 - 29511 of 81564

Thats why Europeans think out birds are the ugliest in europe.

David Genola ex spurs player once said very much the same, and pointed out they were getting fatter and fatter.

goldfinger - 18 Sep 2013 15:29 - 29512 of 81564

My local asian shop(not a racist point here) were I lived 2 years ago was taken to court and its license revoked. They were selling alchol to under age kids.

Now all the shops in that area have stopped sellling alchol altogether for fear of being fined and maybe closed down, so it jeapordises innocents aswel.

MaxK - 18 Sep 2013 15:34 - 29513 of 81564

Pub booze is too expensive, a lot of the young-uns are pissed from supermarket vodka before they ever get to the pub.
