How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Just fired up the laptop again to check the odds, Couldn't resist. Lay the draw at low odds or will the game peter out?

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:35 - 2991 of 10502

Will stick an order in to fire at 1.10 to lay.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:35 - 2992 of 10502

Now taken.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:39 - 2993 of 10502

OK my P&L for the day now stands at a stunning 5.08, Not bad for a days work. But I actually feel pretty good about that after that match.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:40 - 2994 of 10502

10.4m traded, I think that's a record for a single football match.

Harlosh - 25 May 2005 21:43 - 2995 of 10502

75 new posts when I opened this thread up. I think that's a record too.

DocProc - 25 May 2005 21:44 - 2996 of 10502

Aaargh! I needed one more goal before '90 mins + injury'.

3-0
3-1
3-2
3-3

were all no good to me. :-(

Brilliant match though. Well played Carragher and Gerard particularly.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:52 - 2997 of 10502

1.4m turned over at 1.02, That's probably the biggest ever betting loss in history at those odds. Difficult to tell how many traded out or in though.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 21:52 - 2998 of 10502

Hey, I'm pleased to be part of that total! :)

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:08 - 2999 of 10502

Tired looking legs out there. Either a mistake or penalties on the way.

cunningham - 25 May 2005 22:08 - 3000 of 10502

Will there be a market opened for penalties?

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:09 - 3001 of 10502

The winner market runs whatever the situation.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:12 - 3002 of 10502

That save from Dudek deserves to win it. Fantastic.

Fundamentalist - 25 May 2005 22:12 - 3003 of 10502

How does dudek save that!!!!!

cunningham - you can bet on overall winner

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:12 - 3004 of 10502

What an entertaining final this has been.

cunningham - 25 May 2005 22:14 - 3005 of 10502

187 Posts today alone. 10.4m on the match - must be records all round.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:16 - 3006 of 10502

I'd hate to be a Liverpool fan now. How can you watch the penalties now.

Fundamentalist - 25 May 2005 22:17 - 3007 of 10502

how about if youre the punter whos got 80k coming off a liverpool win and refused to lay it off

bakko - 25 May 2005 22:17 - 3008 of 10502

Just picked up a nice little earner from "no goals" during extra time.

Good luck to the scousers in the shoot out.

Scripophilist - 25 May 2005 22:20 - 3009 of 10502

Whatever happens, I'd like to offer Liverpool congrats for doing so well. I think I have written them off in every game and that have taken it and shoved it right back down my throat.
