Can anyone tell me how you get an average for a whole sector whether it be PE, Yield or anything else. I often see a PE for a comapnay quoted, then, compared to the sector average, but not sure where they get the sector avaerage figure from.
Also, I've been reading the book, Buffettology workbook, but for some reason when they do the calculation they say just input the numbers into a calculator, followed by the various formula button, well I don't have those on my calculator which seems an oversight on the author if you ask me.
Therefore, can anyone tell me how to work out an annual compounding rate if you know the present value, the future value and the number of years. I can work out the NPV interest growth when I have the compounding rate but I don't know how you work out the compounding rate in the first place.
Any help, much appreciated!

No probs 12th.
I should have said by the way that the Nth root is the same as saying to the power of 1/N, so on most calculators you would do
((FV/PV) to the power of (1/N))-1
