Networking issues, November 1 2006

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 01 Nov 2006 08:38

Good morning,

Level3, one of the largest backbone providers in the world, have suffered an outage this morning causing loss of access for many customers to our site (and many other sites too).

We're in the process of forcing the routing of our traffic over our Nildram link and hopefully that'll be complete in the next 20-30 minutes.

I'm sorry for the inconvenince this may have caused you this morning.

J

bhunt, I think this was widespread - I couldn't connect to my Pipex broadband after midnight, so to be fair to MoneyAM, this wasn't anything they had any control over.

KEAYDIAN - 01 Nov 2006 08:46 - 4 of 19

Tut tut, also BT are having broadband problems.

hewittalan6 - 01 Nov 2006 08:47 - 5 of 19

Just a suggestion, guys, but if the site is to be down like that is it not possible to wing a general e-mail out to all users advising of the problem and giving an estimated available time.
Good PR.

hewittalan6,

When it's a planned outage, we can let people know on the BBs. When it's not planned, and when we ourselves (from the office, or from home) can't access our equipment (which includes our subscriber lists and mail server), we have no way of emailing you all.

Touche.
Didn't realise it was an access problemto the web, I thought it was just MAM cos I have had no probs with AOL.

If you had my portfolio, you wouldn't sleep either!!

DocProc - 01 Nov 2006 09:09 - 15 of 19

Millions and millions of people are right now checking as to whether their 'end of the month interest' has actually been credited to their Internet savings accounts and saying, "The site is down! The bastards! I bet they haven't yet done it and are actually doing it now. The bastards! I'll just have to check back later, I suppose. The bastards!"

Anyhow, that's what I'm saying because half the bloody Internet is down. The bastards!

:-)

KEAYDIAN - 01 Nov 2006 09:10 - 16 of 19

I'm not concerned, I don't get interest.

KEAYDIAN - 01 Nov 2006 09:11 - 17 of 19

:O(

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 01 Nov 2006 13:23 - 18 of 19

Looks like it was more than just an outage:
