this is the shares mag article written by timon day. ( hope they don't mind if i use it)
"Love them or loathe, them traffic management systems are becoming a daily part of motorists lives. Appian is a world leader with its Talon ANPR software. It works through a range of cameras fixed, handheld and mobile roadside ones. Talon is the only system supplied to all 43 of the UKs police forces. It has won a reputation for over 95% accuracy. Increasingly, commercial customers such as ports and major corporations are buying them to prevent security breaches.
Local authorities such the GLA use the system for congestion charging. The key is the use of the DVLA database of vehicle registration numbers to identify car owners and fine them if they speed or enter bus lanes.
Appian is also winning loads of work overseas. It is a prime contractor for Maltas new congestion-charging scheme. It has also sold systems to almost 30 police forces in North America, with many more trialling the technology.
Other buyers include the Mexican government and a 500,000 order for a large fixed ANPR system in the United Arab Emirates to protect a number of luxury hotels.
The purchase of ANPR rival Genesis in July for 3 million, depending on profits this year and next, has allowed Appian to achieve critical mass with a broader range of products and customers. The recent contract win from Sussex Constabulary was because Appian was able to supply both mobile and fixed monitoring systems with backup.
Lucrative maintenance contracts will provide an increasing and repeatable chunk
of the companys profits. Appian is now on a strong financial footing following the
placing in July, which raised 2.3 million to help fund the Genesis purchase and eliminate debt.
A maiden profit of 18,000 was achieved last year, with sales up 78%, compared with a loss of 1 million the previous year. House broker JM Finn forecasts a full-year profit of 900,000 to September 2007.
Management is upbeat about prospects, saying it expects to make more sales outside of policing cameras in areas such as petrol forecourts, road charging and transport markets both in the UK and overseas.
It would be little surprise if Appian makes nearer 1 million profit this year and then surges to almost 2 million in 2008, dropping the PE to single figures.

Managed to pick some up on friday @ <11p, thought they had not responded enough to the article in shares mag, I don't normally visit shares tips until 2-3 months afterwards when they may have settled back, but thought APN looked good value.

The 50dma looks to be about to go through the 200dma with both rising, I know the 200dma is short but I understand this 50 through the 200 is positive if both ma's are rising, or have I got it wrong.

if the 50 and 200 ma's continue along their paths then we have a golden cross on our hands, which is nice .

Found this by mistake while searching a site for AFN!
I like the prospects for APN a hell of a lot more - so I'm in!

rbs--good luck, I don't think we'll be disappointed with APN, would have expected the bid to tick up a smidgeon with the amount of blue around, unless of course there's a seller in the background.

Why has the green line turned black and gone back again?

Harry6--- The green line is the 50dma, the black line is the 200dma they are both going forward, because APN only floated last year the 200dma only appears around september.

We have a stake builder in APN, IMHO
Plenty of 250k parcels going through with no dip on profit taking, someone is hoovering up the sells.
I would expect a holding RNS next week.

agreed still -
someone's got a big buy order in - or this apparent profit taking would have driven the sp down!

I've noticed some of the late trades are marked as sells when, if you check back to the time the trade was actually carried out they were in fact buys, late trades just confuse the issue as far as I can see.

The co. has great tech. which for a tiny co. doing global deals you don't often see.
I think APN will soon attract the attention of a much larger security concern.
