NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase are thought to be on the verge of announcing combined losses of $3 billion from mortgage-backed securities and leveraged loans when they report third-quarter earnings this month, according to a news report today.

Good morning traders!

In Asia today, the Hang Seng Index was little changed at 27,776.30, while the
Nikkei rose 0.5% to 17,150.33.

November crude-oil futures rose as much as 20 cents to $78.82 a barrel after
falling below the psychologically important $80 a barrel level on the New York
Mercantile Exchange to close at $79.02 Monday.
