In Asia today, the Nikkei closed up 132.77 points at 16,870.4, while the Hang Seng
ended the morning up 346.20 points at 31,698.78.

The front-month crude contract for December delivery jumped as high as $96.24 a
barrel in electronic trading before slipping back. It was recently quoted at $95.87 a
barrel, $1.34 higher than the previous close on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
