Opinion about Corus ? (CS)

nofuture - 04 May 2003 19:29

What about Corus ? Will Corus get finance and survive or what ?

little woman - 05 May 2003 15:16 - 3 of 13

Take a look at "research" above. It says that @ Dec 02 there was 2,722M shareholders funds. Once that gone then they go under if they do nothing. (Which they seem to be doing things!) Also take a look at the annual report figures - News 14 March 1200. The only major problem they have is their short term borrowing. They have enough money owed to them plus the cash in the bank, to cover it (just) and the stocks easily cover it - but stock is not cash! Worse case senario is a rights issue, to pay a chunk of this debt (which is slowly going down!), but if they can stop losing money, they won't need to.

They are not in as bad a shape as you'd think from all the bad press they get. (That could be why they are up about 100% in the last month as maybe others have realised this!)

Thank you little woman.

petralva - 05 May 2003 21:15 - 5 of 13

i wish i had got in at 7 and out at 15 double money!

little woman - 06 May 2003 08:25 - 6 of 13

I got to thank you too nofuture. After taking a look at this share I bought first thing this morning and ama lready in profit! Going in for the short term (1 day!) so put a stop limit order in to ensure I don't get to carried away!

In the Netherlands much ado about new chairman and his wish to sell alu div.
Can we trust this Frenchman and has anyone an idea what his plans are beside closing some plants and sending home 1150 people ?
More than average volume today ,does this mean anything or is it just trading ?

little woman - 08 May 2003 21:01 - 8 of 13

Volume is very high most days! I think it is trading. I've been doing a share game on another site, and for the last couple of months the top accounts have been buying corus (often 100,000 and then sitting on the holding only to have some of the highest increases by the month end!) I wonder how many of them actually deal for real!

Corus have to reduce the short term debt as soon a possible. If they don't they could find that inspite of being able to cover it easily on paper, the banks still could pull the plug just because they don't have enough cash if the debt is called in and they can't refinance.

They only have a few options.
1. Reduce the amount they spend, by closing some plants and reduce the work force so the cash they receive pays off the debt instead of paying bills.
2. Sell more of their stock. (They are overproducing and piling of stock, as they seem unable to sell.) - so not really a option in the short term
3. Sell some of the divisions to raise cash to reduce the debt.
4. Have a rights issue, which will devalue the current shares and may be a flop, and pay the advisors a huge amount in fees for organising it.

They seem to be going for options 1 & 3. The advantange is that if they can get rid of the debt and turn things arround they can buy back what they sell, and re-open & reemploy at a later date when they are able to expand again... (They can't do this if they go bust!)

nofuture - 09 May 2003 07:38 - 9 of 13

Thank you again little woman,

i think you are right. Options 1 & 3 are already planned as far as i know of.
Option 4 is where we are very afraid of because it is in line with their previous way of running the company.
Let's wait and see.

little woman - 09 May 2003 10:02 - 10 of 13

price going up again.

little woman - 09 May 2003 10:17 - 11 of 13

and now down! (despite the amount of buys being double the amount of sells)

nofuture - 09 May 2003 12:29 - 12 of 13

Everybody is awaiting news from the company. I'm hanging in there and when the price is going down i will buy more because i really believe the current price will double or more even when there 's little good news.

leoncio1 - 07 Sep 2005 20:55 - 13 of 13
