SUPPORT THE BOARD

gardyne - 27 Jun 2003 21:48

I AM NEW TO THIS BOARD BUT HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED GOOD INFORMATION FROM MANY POSTERS.FOR ANY BOARD TO BE A SUCCESS THE MORE POSTS ABOUT DIFFERENT COMPANIES THE BETTER LET THE READER DECIDE WHAT IS GENUINE.JUST POST IT AND SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

lesk - 28 Jun 2003 21:27 - 3 of 37

what you need is a thriving MMD thread... :)

MightyMicro - 30 Jun 2003 00:11 - 4 of 37

lesk: I'm sure we can rely on you to keep the MMD thread alive and well.

Just started Sanctuary Group. Did a Hornby and a Bloomsbury too but those have sunk without trace. Probably because the companies make money and will survive whereas most posters seem to prefer companies that have fleas......!

Cheers

It's a vicious circle - no critical mass, so waste of time to post, so no critical mass. Very difficult to break that circle - if AM can't do it with sponsorship from Shares, then hard to see how anyone can, until/unless there is a real surge in market activity/share prices

Other boards are hanging on with their long-term hardcore users - eg Hemscott, Citybull; some have a specific slant (Trade2Win, Motley Fool, others?); some already have the mass (AdvFN, iii?). And others are struggling, of which this is one.

Dunno about the Trader's Room - apparently that's more lively, but I'm not tempted - as someone (superrod?) said on another thread - when the free board is this moribund, what's the incentive to pay to sample the other board? (I paraphrase)

zzaxx99 - 30 Jun 2003 11:18 - 7 of 37

It's now 11:15 and there have been a grand total of 13 posts today, excluding this one - and 5 of those were by goldfinger on his/her new thread.

Dunno how important the board is to AM - presumably the main income streams are the quote delivery services - but a moribund board like this is not a great entry point.

MightyMicro - 30 Jun 2003 11:41 - 8 of 37

ZZaxx:

79 posts by 11:29 on the Traders' Thread alone on the Traders' Room this morning, and loads of others on other threads there.

Things are a little quiet in the market right now -- 200-400 posts a day on the Traders' Thread alone is usual.

Go on, spend the 5 -- you can always downgrade after a month -- it's easy to do by email or phone with AM, you don't need a Nubian Runner with a cleft stick to deliver a Notarised affidavit as with another place.

Just like to add that ShareCrazy was a dead site only two months back and now it is really booming. The guys in charge seem to have targeted two areas, students and the retired.

I think they have advertised in local Rags where there are Universities and have attracted a big audience. They have also upped their base by offering a broker serice for a flat deal of 9 per trade.

I think their business model could be replicated with great effect.

I feel that this site is too close to adfvn and they have first mover advantage.

Im sure with a little thought and imagination with some kind of new offering that this site could take off, what about charts where you can add your own lines etc, etc. What about video casts.

Im sure when the Bull market really gets going later this year hits will increase on the site.

good luck and regards G.

MM???

Sorry derek but, got the distinct impression from some crazy punters over here that you had a vibrant and contrarian viewed MMd thread over here... seems I was mistaken... just found an empty shell populated by some old hay and welsh weed... :)

MightyMicro - 30 Jun 2003 15:08 - 13 of 37

lesk: . . . and a Scots git (moi).

little woman - 30 Jun 2003 17:00 - 14 of 37

I'm currently trying out the Level 2 for free. But cannot justify the expense when I only get to loggin for about 6 hours a week while the market is open. I do most of my research etc. when the market is closed.

It's a shame that more people who post on the traders room threads don't post on theses BB threads.

I have noticed that the FTSE competition (which July entries should be closing tonight?) mostly have people from the traders room taking part. If everyone who post on this BB also had a go, then maybe they would come over and post here from time to time!

lesk - 30 Jun 2003 17:12 - 15 of 37

MM - not had the opportunity of locking horns with you yet... I'm sure being scottish, your a far cry from the maddening nerd [sorry 'herd'].... :) Still, I'm sure you have more important and valuable things to be doing than trashing a 5m company on the borderline of recovery just to gain a few brownie points with some esoteric club. :)

MightyMicro - 30 Jun 2003 17:27 - 16 of 37

I hadn't noticed that I was trashing a company -- I would be amazed if I had the power to trash anything.

I think the purpose of the bulletin board is, inter alia, to provide a forum for opinions, news and views. You are right, I'm not interested in Brownie points -- I'm unaware of anyone awarding them around here.

There is of course the occasional "poster of the week" winner, but then some other BBs have that as well -- it's just a bit of fun, awarded in a completely biased and arbitrary manner -- without benefit of discussion with anyone, score cards or Brownie points -- by Crocodile. I think Haystack won it once.

little woman - 30 Jun 2003 18:25 - 17 of 37

There seem to be a lot of people just reading the various treads, but not so many actually posting.

I presume this is because they feel they have nothing to say! It would be really usefully if people could occasionally say Hi so we know that you are out there!

Paulismyname - 30 Jun 2003 19:46 - 18 of 37

As I said on the penny shares thread, there is quite a lot of activity on the premium BB, I honestly think that you would all be quite satisfied with the content. (no commercial connection with Moneyam)

Dailos - 30 Jun 2003 21:32 - 19 of 37

Paulismyname
When you asked for a penny share a few weeks back, i nearly said have a sh*t or bust punt on CST (then 0.07p!)i heard they should make money next year, didnt post for fear of mass ridicule!
Gone up a bit since then and today they announce they should make money next year, i dont trust the management (used to be Upton and Southern) so only bought a few at 0.07p, thrown them in the dog drawer and will look again to see if they are still trading in a few years time, not for widows etc and best avoided so nobody buy on my advice, chuck them on your stockwatch out of interest though.

zzaxx99 - 30 Jun 2003 22:39 - 20 of 37

-- little woman,

Personally, I think it's the opposite - people can't be bothered to post because of the feeling that there's hardly anyone to read what they post. Or that if they do post that some tendentious arsehole (ains tribe & the anti-ains) will ignite a flamestorm.

Sorry, this isn't very positive, but that's how I see it.

MightyMicro - 30 Jun 2003 23:15 - 21 of 37

zzaxx99: which is exactly why ains+alaises and the anti-ains lot were removed from the BB. All sound and fury signifying nothing.

Kayak - 30 Jun 2003 23:33 - 22 of 37

I remember when the ADVFN FBB was a desert, complete with tumbleweed rolling across the scene. For a year or so there were continual calls for it to be shut down or merged with the PBB. Gradually the traffic picked up and then snowballed. Give MoneyAM time. It takes time to build a business.

The way Clem runs his end of course it will take a lot less time.
