Been trying to daytrade both the FTSE and DJIA on IG Index spreadbetting. Im still learning the ropes just now. Using basic Tech Anal along with news and fundementals. I still need some decent software for my TA. Any suggestions would be welcome. For what its worth DJIA holds resistence and support at round numbers more often than not e.g. 9400/9500 have had quite a bit of success doing that. Markets difficult at the moment but short term buying on the dips on both the FTSE/DJIA will be my strategy.

hello zarif
i swing trade 'try some might say :)' SPX NDX using the spreads, i dont use much in the way of technical indicators to be honest (mainly sentiment) but im looking at the basics to help with entry points (trend/support/resistance breaks/SAR/ROC etc). At the moment were pretty extended on the sentiment front but it has eased over the last few weeks with prices still making gains. hmmm.
ive got the big number in the SPX at around 1015 which could be used as a pivot point.
just started to day trade EUR/USD using spreads at it seems to follow the spot pretty much to the point using (fibs/SAR/ROC). ive heard plenty complain about price skewing and worse on index/stock spreads which can make life very hard for a day trader. DYOR and all that
regards
fred

Hi zarif,
I've just started using deal4free's training software and had an interesting day spreadbetting the DOW for monopoly money. End of day I was up 520 pounds (simulated) which I was pretty happy with considering I am just learning the ropes and was operating mostly on gut feel. Learned a lot about holding my nerve :-)
I've been share trading for a couple of months now so some of the graph patterns were looking familiar.
deal4free's software is excellent. The only other I've tried is E*Trade's CFD interface and I find d4f's easier to use.

Well, after losing several thousand dollars (simulated, I'm glad to say) this morning through random and careless trading, I actually applied some thought to the DOW after 3pm and picked up about $600, watching the trends and support levels and spotting the drop back from the peak.
Patience and nerve are certainly the essential ingredients of this game. I shall spend a fair bit more time practising before going in for real.
I get most of my information from this site. I've just upgraded to Level 2+ and the streaming graphs are very useful. For TA graphs I tend to use Yahoo. Their graphs are loads better than any other I've found, though the display can be a little buggy sometimes.

MarketMaker is what I've been practising with. Very good bit of software, I'm quite impressed.
Thanks for the t2w tip. I hadn't come across that one before. It's amazing how much free information there is out there on the net.

Why don't all of you stop following the 'Muppet's Index' i.e. the Dow Jones and start following a real trader's index like the S+P or the Nasdaq Composite ??
As for not using technicals and concentrating on sentiment indicators, I'd add bulletin boards and chat rooms to the list of indicators worth following - just do the opposite once everyone is an expert as to why it's going up/down !
All the above sites look ok although get a bit fed up with all the adverts all over the place !

Magician,
It's rare to get a consencus on a BB.
Having said that the number of bears on
the US Traders thread is amazing considering
the direction of the Dow & S&P so your hypothesis
has a lot going for it.

Hi Zarif !
In my experience you get what you pay for ! I've found that on a lot of the free sites the info's not actually that helpful or too vague etc.
For TA I'd start with the charting package on E-trade's system - it's a reasonably basic system - if u want something a bit more advanced then ESignal seems to cover most things. As for financial sites there are tons out there, but most are #### ! 1 i've found useful over time is the harry hindsight service - it's not a tip site - they trade their own money - that's what i like ie not just sitting there spouting crap ! Site has good technical levels and analysis of what's going on. Think they still run a free trial then u have to pay monthly. Having said that - they've saved my skin a few times now so don't mind paying.
