TFC seem to be rocketing up the charts - I know they have sound finances and a well-regarded product, but why now ?
(I bought @ at 22p and sold after Saddam got busted @ 74p). I am wondering if I did the right thing (bought into AFE and AFG with some of the proceeds).

This was extracted from the Ian Catling Consultancy. This looks pretty independent and it will be difficult to say that Trafficmaster has any involvement in this... I mean influence on the results although TFC is the one to commission it. no case, signalled TFC yesterday. What do you think?
Independent Review of Traffic Information Fidelity
The Ian Catling Consultancy has produced the first comprehensive independent study of the respective fidelity of traffic information produced by Trafficmaster Plc and ITIS Holdings Plc.
Researched during three weeks in January 2004, the study recorded some 517 reports across the UK and noted the accuracy and timeliness of each of the two traffic information systems.
The two companies use different technologies for measuring the traffic flow on a real time basis. Trafficmaster has a fixed network of sensors on all motorways and trunk roads across the UK, whereas ITIS has deployed several thousand "black boxes" in commercial vehicles and private cars; if an equipped car is stuck in a traffic jam it can report the situation over a mobile phone network. Each company claims the merits of its own technology.
Currently Trafficmaster provides traffic information through a number of partners including O2, RAC, PSA, MG Rover, and some eleven other motor manufacturers who have adopted its Smartnav navigation/traffic information system. ITIS provides services through a close relationship with the AA and for RDS-TMC services to BMW, Toyota and Ford.
The detailed study is covered in 70 pages, looking at comparisons of concurrent traffic reports from both systems. These were then compared with visual overview checks from observers out on the road and access to Highways Agency cameras. A detailed statistical analysis of the accuracy of each system was then carried out.
We send herewith an Executive summary of the report which summarises the findings of the study.

Samon, you'll have to order from Ian Catling Consultancy for the report. All I have to say is all electronics are pretty reliable nowadays. Can't see how ITIS can make a big fuss out of reliability... I would be more concern with accuracy of the systems.

More good news again today. Most car producers now offer SMART-NAV.Does anyone know what the take-up has been like?My guess is pretty good & the results will show this. The price should take off again.Im holdig out for at 1.60 but if they get that high who knows. p.s. not worried about ITIS,smells of sour grape to me.

This industry will go through several phases of consolidation and it seems that TFC is right on top! More to come as you could imagin what a car would look like without TFC's SmartNav in it!!
