Did you all miss this one today up 227% - yes in 1 day! (QXL)

chartist2004 - 20 Jan 2004 16:54

I did as well!

donaldrobinson - 20 Jan 2004 17:01 - 3 of 30

Saw it and got carried away at 200%. Now panic stricken about what'll happen tomorrow!!!

Doshmaker - 20 Jan 2004 17:07 - 4 of 30

I think it was approximately 50% up on opening so I thought no more mileage left for a day trade, kept my eye on it on and off all day, kept thinking it's going to drop soon - obviously I was wrong. I personally always feel there is something very dodgy about buying into a share which has risen more than 20/30% in a day. Surely over 200% is a bit of a joke. I must admit though I know little about this company so it may be realistic - my gut feeling is keep well away.

laszlo.varga - 20 Jan 2004 19:12 - 5 of 30

which stock are you talking about?

chartist2004 - 20 Jan 2004 19:27 - 6 of 30

Epic code >QXL< might give you a clue;

Global Nomad - 20 Jan 2004 23:57 - 7 of 30

theres plenty of shareholders (including me) who are still circa 90% + - down on there original shareholding after a 1 for 1000 consolidation. I also saw the price this morning and had the same thoughts as doshmaker, too many thoughts of averaging down over the last months ( and didn't :-(( ) and then this.....its a tough life

Another big rise today. I have noticed that some people on another less civilised bb are getting quite excited about this one. Anyone have any expeience of these ?

Ah some good news from QXL - shares UP a decent amount - or are they?
Even looking at the start of this year they are down - indeed DOWN is the word for QXL.
Looking at the graphs I am not sure the 1000:1 consolidation has trickled through.
The Money-AM "All Data" graph shows the shares were about 20p (briefly) in Jan 2001 - yet by May when I bought them they were 7.5 pence ( not all that different really, for those internet days ). Now taking in the 1000:1 consolidation the price I paid was really - wait for it 75 pounds, yet the graph is still showing something well below 20p ( It's practically level with the bottom, so my guess is this is the 7.5 pence I paid.)
If the graph is showing shares without the 1000:1 consolidation then today's price is a little low ( since that does include it!) - the price should be 3.87 x 1000 ie 3,870.00 so it shows that today's prices are indeed (still) far too low and the shares are as-ever a poor long-term investment.
I'm ready to take the flak, ...bandits at eight...roger...

Qxl in the news again, do they do any useful work? Each time I look the shares are down. Investing in them is like buying ice in a bucket - No, it's worse! the bucket has its uses..

hangon - 14 Jan 2005 11:39 - 19 of 30

up again, it must be a Bid; as nothing raises this dullard like a bid. So it seems.
To break-even after the 2003 consolidation, I need close on 35/share. Is that too much to expect when "Ebay" is on everyone's lips?
I thought QXL would be a UK- alternative - can it be that difficult, can it?

hangon - 14 Feb 2005 17:17 - 20 of 30

another 27% up - just shows the earlier Bid was painfully low - but worth a try as Management don't seem to be especially capable. (cue sp graph!)
This new deal "could" mean shareholders seeing 20/share so not that far off my 35 buy-price considering all the twists and turns a wrong-'un makes between birth and death. Many more punters bought at far higher prices, but maybe sold-out to "experience" long ago.

What were they doing in Poland, anyway. Get your home-market sorted out then worry about expansion, chaps. The site is a mess and whilst people talk of Ebay (and ads on tv) I never hear of QXL - so there is something seriously wrong with that on the advertising/promotion side.

hangon - 08 Apr 2005 10:36 - 21 of 30

Looks like all the bids are played out - yet there is one organisation building a stake - (good!).
What QXL needed was a fresh supply of Mangement about 4 years ago - and a little more attention to getting the UK auction sorted out. Pople spend hours ( days?) on Ebay (and QXL never gets a mention).
/
I'm a lone-voice on this co. but I think we should see some improvement in sp now that some larger players are circling.....although why they would buy a web-site just to re-vamp it beats me......maybe QXL has a list of customers going back several years and this might have some value.
/
Of course with dullards at the helm, QXL could sink into obscurity. And you know what? No-one would really care. (Apart from the Directors that have been taking fes for very little effort,). All IMHO!

ateeq180 - 09 Jun 2005 11:47 - 22 of 30

Why such a steep rise, and rising every day, other boards predicting higher prices than at current levels,a bit risky though.
