Jsargent2 and anybody else - try us on the Dow thread as I am mainly a spread better and there are a lot of others who will no doubt help u in your quest. I use Ig Index limited risk a/c. and have another with capital spreads. I hope it helps and please post on our thread at the dow for specific questions and we shall endeavor to ansewr them.

IG Index I have found to be the best. They also provide a samll 2 hour introduction in London once every two weeks I believe so you can pick up the basics there. Also as Zarif mentioned, the Dow thread is quite helpful.

Have a look at http://www.cmcmarkets.co.uk.
They have a demo platform to introduce the systems.
The platform is reasonable for charting, if you change the screen colours and the dealing windows and actual dealing has been improved.
Overlays and indicators have good range.
Shares betting is restricted to top 350,(suit me at the moment).
There were grumbles on this BB some years ago, but I have always found them reasonable and telephone help has always be friendly and courteous.
My only grumble is I haven't won enough.
