Thanks BrianTrayda

For anyone who doesn't know, I use these figures to work out stop loss. I believe S3 is a level a share sometimes drops to before going back up. (Having used in the past, only to find the share drops to it, my stop loss kicks in and then the share recovers straight away!) I now use a figure 1-2% below the S3, on the basis if a share breaks S3 then it will continue down.

So far it has worked well, and dispite the current market drop, non of my stop losses have actually kicked in yet. But then I don't seem to be holding any of the companies that have been hit hardest!

BrianTrayda - 12 Mar 2004 10:00 - 5 of 362

LW - all of the levels will have some impact. It's amazing how well they work. I'll drop the occasional chart in to emphasize the point.

If you always keep in mind that everybody has a preset buy/sell cut-and-run number in their head you have to ask how do they get that number. Pivot, trend channels and Fibs are very popular. I've always felt it was a self-fulfilling prophecy scenario.

Thanks

So far non of my stop losses (to lock in profit) has kicked in despite the falling market. This makes me think this is a tempory fall. (And if it's not, then the stop losses so I will take profits - will eventually kick in!)

BrianTrayda - 15 Mar 2004 11:26 - 8 of 362

FTSE came back to Piv at 4437, but it's having a problem as to where to go next.... Lot of stocks hit main Pivot and bounced. Wait for the Yanks to decide now...

What excellent work.

That must have took a lot of time and effort, thankyou
for sharing it with us.

Melnibone.

Melnibone, I use them myself and I've posted them in the Traders Room for a long time. It is amazing how reliable they can be. All intraday, but I've done work on longer periods and the results are pretty good, but the further back you go the less reliable they are.Software is my primary business so it was really just a case of tidying up what I had already.Lots of folks help each other in the Traders Room and I was just reciprocating.

Thanks Brian - updated my stop loss figures

taboad - 17 Mar 2004 09:07 - 19 of 362

Many thanks for info Brian. Used info on FTSE this morning on 8.30 reversal. Noticed program trade blob on chart and then abc setup immediately afterwards to confirm upward movement (been on course with Croc), also 50MA crossed pivot level positive at this point. Took 12 pts and closed for days profit. May be beginners luck, but paid for my skiing holiday next week.

BrianTrayda - 17 Mar 2004 09:32 - 20 of 362

Taboad - they work don't they.;-)Luck or skill, who knows, but well done. :-)ps: For indices always leave a few points each way from the Pivot and then watch the 1 and 5 min candles for confirmation. Think you'll find that damn reliable.

Just for interest, for those who use OpenOffice .org instead
of Excel.

I've found that if you highlight the table, select copy,
click on A1 in OpenOffice, select Paste Special, paste as
HTML, then it copies OK for browsing offline.
The links also work if you are online.

Hope that helps.
Thanks again, Brian.

Melnibone.
