Turbo Genset - any thought on where this may go (TGN)

jj50 - 10 Apr 2004 16:34

I have held Turbo Genset since last August and watched it go down, down, down! I had hoped the New York power problems might have given this a lift. Any comments?

jj50 - 11 Apr 2004 13:37 - 3 of 15

Andy,

Thanks for your input. A bit depressing!

I had bought following comment on Citywire website. In August TGN had announced a new marketing deal with Cupola in the Middle East and said it was "close to a deal" in the Indian subcontinent. John Gunn, the venture capitalist is a director and investor in TGN and was quoted as saying that momentum should continue to build helped by the power outages in New York. In October some further contracts were won. Their new portable generators (due to be ready by mid 2004) shoud prove vital to overloaded power stations - so let's hope something comes of it and that TGN doesn't stand for "to go nowhere"!!

I'm another investor who bought in on what I saw as basic medium term strengths and "temporary" weakness a month or so ago at about 22 pence. It has since fallen about a third and seems to be anticipating disaster. Was my analysis, or my timing, more at fault?
Any views please?

IMO the figures below from the quarterly report released today says it all - Quarterly sales significantly down on 2 previous 1/4's running rate. No significant improvement apparent in loss per share and no forecasts in the report. 12 Selected quarterly informationThe following table sets forth selected consolidated financial information of the Company for the eight most recently completed quarters.
Revenue Net loss #'000 Earnings per share
UK pence (loss)
June 2002 205 (2,073) (1.2)
September 2002 317 (2,862) (1.6)
December 2002 76 (1,449) (0.8)
March 2003 207 (1,717) (1.0)
June 2003 277 (2,224) (1.3)
September 2003 584 (1,974) (1.1)
December 2003 474 (3,612) (2.1)
March 2004 319 (2,241) ( 1.3)
Can anyone give any Bullish (not bullshit) reasons for buying this share?

If you bought in early May the RSI was either dropping or flat and the MACD was in the process of falling through its EMA. Both signals far from bullish.
The last bullish signal came in mid Jan when the MACD was rising through its EMA ( below 0 line = weak signal) RSI and volume rising. Stock went to 35p and MACD and RSI started falling along with share price. Highlighting the weakness of the original buy signals. Quick exit required!!
Nothing to signal a buy showing on these indicators at the moment.
All MY interpretation of the indicators of course.

All confirming my thoughts. Thank you for input. Think I shall write this one off as a loss against some gains but my sale will probably precipitate a power outage in New York next week!

jj the quick exit I referred to would have been around 35-30p level.
As it is now down a long way it is always possible that it could turn up again. I know nothing of the history of the company and am only looking at the TA aspect apparent on the indicators shown on this thread. It is also a long while until you can offset any capitol losses. Could be worth giving this some thought jj

I was rather bullish on this some time ago on the basis of potentiol orders from China but decided I was wasting my time (and money) so cut my losses and put the money into other things. However good luck if your still in.

jj50 - 13 Jun 2004 19:13 - 10 of 15

Janus, interested in your comments. I had bought on the strength of a Middle East marketing agreement. There was also word of a new portable 400kw generator due out in "mid 2004" so shall check if there is any news on this front before I take any action.

Janus - 13 Jun 2004 19:43 - 11 of 15

It was last year that I got interested mainly on the strengh of the Kadoorie family taking a stake. Michael Kadoorie is the Chairman of CLP Power Hong Kong which is a large provider on the Chinese mainland. He is also friendly with the Chinese President.

Thought I still had a copy of the Numis brokers note issued in Jan but I must have zapped it. I seem to remember they were talking about a valuation of 55p. Mmm shows how good (not) brokers notes are I guess.

I think at this point you have to be very optistic but stranger things have happened.

jj50 - 28 Jun 2004 09:04 - 12 of 15

Some good news today and a 14% rise!

Turbo Genset (TGN) wins high-speed motor deal from SKF; sees initial value of SKF deal exceeding 6 million.

Janus - 29 Jun 2004 07:22 - 13 of 15

Numis is still urging its clients to pile in to Turbo, reiterating a 55p target price.

jj50 - 29 Jun 2004 07:44 - 14 of 15

Thanks Janus. I don't think I would be taking Numis' advice if I wasn't already in but I am going to hold tight for the time being.

jj50 - 02 Jul 2004 16:38 - 15 of 15

Up 4p today; not as chronic as I thought. Numis must know something I don't!
