I think it is existing investers buying at low levels to bring their average cost per share down ....the saying "don't try and catch a falling knife" comes to mind. I did the same around the 7p level now 20% lower than that ...I was hoping after the fund raising last year the company would be in a stronger position and start picking up, but sentiment is obviously still not too good. News of Kings Road Investments Limited and Polygon Global Opportunities Master Fund buying 30 million shares in Jan did not seem to help either. With little news from the company I think it is sit and wait ..meanwhile the share price will drift around on volume buys/sells.

You did'nt have to wait long for your answer for the high volume "bhunt1910".
A PROFIT WARNING, profits will be "significantly" affected to the year sept 05, by the underperformance of the Long term care segment of its glucose monitoring business.
Chief executive also stepping down and London office to be closed.

The sp is touching the bottom as in Sept02 (3.9pence) - that was because of "general Market" woes and the lack of any news from MDY.
The loss of their American CEO won't do any good either, but may ensure the company doesn't go States-side which squeezes any PEP/ISA holders.
The company seems to be selling into WalMart and there is a good chance WalMart will assume a presence over here, once the ASDA takeover has settled down. However, I see the problem as the majority of their business is in America and the /dollar fluctuations always seem to go the wrong way. Unless MDY buys a hedge this could impact on future profits.
There is relatively little information from the company - it's as though their "Good Idea" factory was satisfied with its effort about six years ago and has moved to pastures new. The loss of the syringe business was a major blow as this was seen as the route to Loot by many in the Company and the City.
They need to demonstrate that they are moving forward and designing new products - not to compete with their own, but to satisfy new opportunities. This has not happened yet and silence is their watchword on new ideas. IMHO.

Following my own advice I've bought a small-value holding in MDY - yet today the price is falling again slightly - yet look at TRADES:
16 Million Buys!
150k Sells!
-now I know these labels are notoriously inaccurate, but something is going-on - - -Time will Tell, as they say. Could be a Takeover? - with those in the know buying all they can get.....16million x3p is close on a half-million quid! Not exactly small change, but why the price-fall? A big Seller after hours....
Maybe a new CEO? or another Dir leaving - no, it's just too difficult.
