PRESS COMMENT
FT
THE LEX COLUMN comments on GUS (cautious optimism rather than exuberance is the appropriate response to GUS's break-up), Dollar, Eon, Societe Generale (the 15 pct discount to its sector looks unjustified) - IMAGINATION TECHNOLOGIES (it is best to wait and see if those high-graphics mobile phones do start rolling on to the martket this year)
Times
DIRECTORS' DEALINGS: CASTINGS (non-executive sells stock for 28,000 stg) - RUMOUR OF THE DAY: LONDON & ASSOCIATED PROPERTIES (talk it could be the next shopping centre landlord to attract corporate activity) - SCOTTISH & NEWCASTLE (talk it has pulled out of the bid battle for Columbia's Bavaria) - ULTIMATE LEISURE (persistent rumours that Guy Naggar, the Gallic corporate raider, has built a near 15 pct stake) - TEMPUS: GUS (buy), LUMINAR (hold), LOCAL RADIO COMPANY (buy)
Telegraph
QUESTOR: BRITISH LAND (stock should tick up slowly), DE LA RUE (now is not the time to be betting the farm), GREENCORE (a risky buy)
Mail
PARTYPOKER (believed to be well on course for a 3 bln stg-plus float on the London stock exchange)
Guardian
DAVIS SERVICE GROUP (sale of portable toilets and buildings business leaves it vulnerable to a takeover approach) - PURSUIT DYNAMICS (rumours of a Tyco contract win)
Independent
THE INVESTMENT COLUMN: DE LA RUE (look more of a hold now), DAIRY CREST (hold)
Express
SHARE WHISPER: IP2IPO (talk that Commerzbank was offloading more stock) - WHO'S DEALING: MARKS & SPENCER (chief executive picks up 50,000 shares at 339 pence and now holds 400,416)

The whole sector getting hammered, lw

little woman - 26 May 2005 16:03 - 11 of 12

good time to buy bank shares?

Greystone - 26 May 2005 16:26 - 12 of 12

lw - Usually best to be a little patient in these situations. There is likely to be some fallout in the press in the morning.
