LONDON 2012

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 12:52

Well done Seb Coe, Fantastic stuff.

Global Nomad - 06 Jul 2005 13:20 - 3 of 27

great achievement, wonderful news, as a londoner in the east end this is a great boost, it will lift sentiment and the markets in the short term and longer term will support and encourage a strenthening economy.....

any ideas on companies and business most likely to benefit......
i'm an architect so I already know what this will do for our sector...

STORMCALLER - 06 Jul 2005 13:25 - 4 of 27

WHAT A DELIGHT IT WILL BE IN 9 YEARS TIME WATCHING THIS 20 BLN WHITE ELEPHANT FALL INTO DERELICTION
AND HAVING THAT WARM FEELING OF KNOWING THE NEXT THREE GENERATIONS WILL STILL BE IN POVERTY TRYING TO PAY FOR THIS NIGHTMARE

bhunt1910 - 06 Jul 2005 13:25 - 5 of 27

Well played Chirac - I think his comments this last week about the uk swung it in our favour.

Who said we wouldn't get it.

driver - 06 Jul 2005 13:31 - 7 of 27

oop's wrong date.

optomistic - 06 Jul 2005 13:34 - 8 of 27

Being from the North, travelling through London by car creates more than just a little concern. As journeying through and around the center will have to be made far easier and smoother than it is now. When all new road systems are complete then the congestion charge would will be unnecessary and be able to be removed...aaaah Utophia!!

STORMCALLER - 06 Jul 2005 13:51 - 9 of 27

Opto,

Current plan is to raise the congestion charge at least annually, and to extend it, first as far as the M25.
And all that was before the mountain of debt that will accrue from today's disastrous decision...:-(((

optomistic - 06 Jul 2005 13:58 - 10 of 27

Stormy, thanks for the explanation, all is clear now. Did we actually WIN this contest. LOL

STORMCALLER - 06 Jul 2005 14:13 - 11 of 27

Opto,

The french have achieved a great victory, they will still be laughing about this in 100 years, as London still struggles to pay off it's debt..:-(

optomistic - 06 Jul 2005 14:17 - 12 of 27

Perhaps the E.U. will award us a grant.

Bullshare - 06 Jul 2005 14:27 - 13 of 27

Opto; I think Tony Blair has that planned, cancel all farm subsidies and give the money to London:-)

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 15:13 - 14 of 27

It will be a huge boost the whole UK economy.

bosley - 06 Jul 2005 15:16 - 15 of 27

scrip, if that is so , then why didn't london put in this amount of effort for the manchester bid?

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 06 Jul 2005 15:19 - 16 of 27

sale now on!Paris olympic t-shirts for sale cheap

Kayak - 06 Jul 2005 15:21 - 17 of 27

Manchester? We wouldn't want it to be held in the provinces, would we? :-)

bosley - 06 Jul 2005 15:25 - 18 of 27

but i thought the WHOLE country benefits?
my point is that you southerners should stop being so american, (world superbowl, world series, etc, only involving american teams) and thinking that what is good for london is good for everyone else.

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 15:32 - 19 of 27

It's called the multiplier effect. Sure London will get a huge boost but the rest of the country will benefit as well.

optomistic - 06 Jul 2005 15:53 - 20 of 27

I like TulletJ's picture, in reality there must be many thousands of garments around with the logo. They could always be overprited with something suitable......ideas ??

ptholden - 06 Jul 2005 15:53 - 21 of 27

Scrip

Fully agree, fantastic news.

Scripophilist - 06 Jul 2005 15:54 - 22 of 27

It's all a bit unreal really. The French were so far in the lead for so long they must be distraught.
