Nothing to do with ice cream! (PUR)

John1925 - 29 Jul 2005 21:37

When I heard about Pure Wafer, I thought this had something to do with ice cream. That is not the case!
My small investment has increased in value...but for how long?

shares mag tips are woeful....and thats being kind.

i aint looked at mag for at least 2 years as i found that they couldnt tip rubbish.

HARRYCAT - 12 Apr 2008 08:28 - 6 of 19

Bit harsh, Scot. No tipster that I know of, gets more than 25% of it's tips correct. Shares Mag covers more than 100 companies each week & it's pretty difficult to get that many right all the time.
If you have decided this is a dud (which it looks like), then move on or short it.

hlyeo98 - 12 Apr 2008 12:50 - 7 of 19

If they know they can't get it right, Shares mag shouldn't be so optimistic about some companies like SEO, PUR, CWO, HAIK, EZJ just to name a few.

HARRYCAT - 12 Apr 2008 18:31 - 8 of 19

Or alternatively, you could take it as one opinion & do some more research.

hangon - 24 Jun 2008 17:55 - 9 of 19

Eh! 3+ a year ago to 5p-ish looks a tad careless.

Sure I know semiconductor industry is cyclical and silicon is the most abundant element......but I don't understand why a company in the coal-belt is dealing in silicon wafers.
If they were in silicon valley and could visit their customers on a daily basis . . . but in Swansea?
Did you invest Harrycat?

I wonder what yr take (or anyone) is on the spectre of breaching Banking covanants in these difficult times....DfE maybe. . . . oh deary.

It's not one I've ever comtemplated.
Ditto silicon solar-cells,
-or- Chinese coal etc etc.

HARRYCAT - 24 Jun 2008 19:05 - 10 of 19

No I didn't, thank goodness!!!
Probably should be looking at S/B or CFD & shorting some of these!

Bad news for PUREWAFER...

When last tested the Board was within its banking covenants however based on the revised expected outturn for the year the Board would expect these covenants to be breached for the period to 30th June 2008. The Board is in active discussions with its bankers regarding renegotiating these covenants going forwards and believes that the bank remain supportive of the business.

hlyeo98, were you a believer in this one? Or are you down on Shares for their +ve stance on some of these losers?
Either way losers soom show their lack of fibre when there's a downturn, since folk generally look deeper when the feel bad and will examine everything Exces say - so they slip in "Market conditions - rising costs" etc as if this is the reason the business is poor. The fact is that in good times their customers are less-particular and will accept high prices, poor delivery and so on.
Hold SEO and cannot find anything good to say about them as a shareholder - losers for several years, yet able to tell the Market they have the answer to plastics/global warming.etc - yet it turns out their raw material (Pot.Starch) is rising just as fast as plastic - er, so . . . .

Pure-Wafer told us Banking was tight and now the cat's out - this will see Debt for Equity if my name isn't Jack.
Grief what a dumb buisiness model. Did it start-up with Government funding for the Regions? - can think of no reason to put it there _unless someone knows different, that is. Sad days for investors, - - - pulled into another loserin good times.
Harrycat, I'm not sure a 25% success-rate is more than "luck" - is that acceptable? I take yr point that you can't expect Shares to be right all the time....but Good-time Business such as these should only be short-term "momentum" plays - and frankly, I never know when the "momentum" starts and finishes...so I jump aboard - - - - just as it flys over a cliff. Bargepoles.

Might be worth having a look at this one again. Interims out tomorrow and the Final Results for 2012 made good reading. The company seems to be going in a positive direction, although the only wafers I'm familiar with are the ones we eat - so what do I know!

StockMarketWire.com
Pure Wafer has concluded that its Wafer Reclaim facility in Swansea will require extensive repairs, including the removal of all affected structural elements, and that the clean rooms will need to be removed and replaced together with all associated mechanical, electrical and process services.

The process equipment will also need to be extensively refurbished or replaced to ensure that high levels of quality and customer satisfaction are maintained when production resumes.

"The facility is fully and comprehensively insured, which includes extensive 3 year business interruption cover. We are currently working closely with our insurers and their advisors to ensure that production is resumed as soon as possible. It is anticipated that it will take up to 12 months for full scale production to recommence," the company said.

"We continue to communicate and work closely with our customers to minimise any disruption resulting from this incident. Our contingency plan also includes switching, where possible, some current production to our other facility in Prescott, Arizona."

Forensic investigations into the fire, which broke out at 9am on Sunday 21 December 2014, indicate that the fire was caused by an electric fault within the external environmental services area of the facility.

These investigations are still ongoing in conjunction with our insurers and structural engineers as well as the Environment Agency.

Metallurgic testing has now concluded that elements of the building, including parts of the structural steel framework and external roofing and cladding, have been compromised by the fire and will need to be replaced.

Although the fire was contained to the service and plant areas and prevented from entering the production areas by the installed fire prevention systems and fire wall, further extensive testing throughout the building has indicated that the manufacturing areas including the clean rooms and equipment therein have been contaminated by smoke and fumes from the fire.
