I think the motivations from joining a labour, lib/dem or con party are different for many of the groups who join them and influence by parental and school environments.

I think the likely member of the tory party has had a more blinkered and directed upbringing than those of the other parties.

That doesn't mean the tory party is depleted of altruists, but many of its membership are insular and less than empathetic to the situations of others.

Of course in the past and still, the Tory party have had leaders and members who have considered the total society with its bewildering complications and tried and have acting accordingly, but the present hierarchy seems devoid of such necessary understanding and actions, but applying antiquated ideology.

They are more involved in presentation.

Populus’s twice weekly poll earlier today had topline figures of CON 36%, LAB 39%, LDEM 11%, UKIP 7%. Unlike the YouGov polls since Ed Miliband’s conference speech Populus has not shown any sort of boost for the Labour party

Labours figure of 39% of the poll would give Labour an overall majority in parliament.

It is a long way to an election with constantly improving economic conditions. People will realise that only one party can give a referendum on Europe. Labour won't commit to it. The Libs don't want it. UKIP won't have the power to do anything.

Boris Johnson has revealed he was invited to speak at the Ukip party conference in London - by Nigel Farage's wife.

Addressing a rally for activists at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester on Monday evening, the mayor of London said he had received a "really heartwarming letter" from Kirsten Farage who he suspected was the "brains" and the "power behind the throne", but had decided to decline the offer.

"I was very flattered and amused. My instinctive reaction was to say yes. But then I thought, no. No, no, no. This is the moment to lash my self to mast and resist the siren song of Kirsten," he said.

"With a general election less than two years away, there is only one relevant fact, there is a risk the party she supports would deprive [people] of the chance to have a vote in a EU referendum because they would help put Miliband back in power."

Boris was speaking one the same day that Farge [Nigel] had been attempting to draw attention away from the main conference centre by taking part in three fringe events outside the secure zone. Including one which clashed with the timing of Boris' rally.

"My message to the charming Mrs Farage," he said. "Is don't vote for Ukip, don't even think about it, because we will see this country sleepwalk into a Labour government".
