Gas to Liquid
Commencement of Operations Started 28/12/2006
The strategy of GTL Resources plc is to produce liquids such as methanol and ethanol from stranded gas, corn and other feedstocks with quality counterparties. GTL manages all aspects of a project: finance, feedstock supply, production and marketing.
In line with its strategy of seeking to develop and exploit markets for alternative fuels, GTL has, since the beginning of 2001, concentrated primarily upon developing methanol projects, principally in Australia, and, more recently, ethanol project work. The Board has recognised the strategic benefits of acquiring a cash generative asset on a shorter time scale than the typical methanol construction time of three years. In furtherance of this strategy, on 6 September 2005 GTL Resources acquired a controlling interest in Illinois River Energy (IRE) to build an ethanol plant at Rochelle, Illinois, through its wholly owned subsidiary, GTL USA, which has been established for the purpose of investing in ethanol projects in the USA. GTL USA has invested in IRE by way of a subscription for units of IRE pursuant to the Unit Purchase Agreement.
This project has the advantage that the Plant is expected to produce revenues on a shorter time scale and at a significantly lower capital cost than the methanol plant in Australia.
The Company intends to further expand within the ethanol industry in the United States or other suitable markets by selective acquisition of low cost production facilities. The Company sees itself as a potential consolidator of ethanol plants in a particularly fragmented market.
FT Tip
GTL Resources, an Aim-listed company. It raised money to build an ethanol plant in the US. Raw materials costs have risen but the price of ethanol has gone through the roof. The earnings potential should be spectacular.
New Plant

Construction started at Rochelle, Illinois site in September and production from the 50 million gallon per annum ethanol plant is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2006. Following unusually mild weather in Illinois the project has progressed well and is on schedule and on budget. Whilst the Companys main efforts centre on the successful delivery of the US ethanol project at Rochelle, the potential expansion of that site to 100 million gallons is being investigated. In addition and consistent
with GTLs stated strategy for the expansion of its interests in the ethanol industry, other ethanol opportunities have also been identified and will be analysed.

I posted this on Marketwatch (The U.S site) and got the reply below.
Any one got any opinions on GTL looks well under valued they are about to open an Ethanol plant at Rochelle, Illinois, producing 50 million gallon per annum ethanol, the plant is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2006. Expanding to 100 million gallon per annum soon after.
how can you tell? is it trading? I don't see it anywhere....
personally, I don't like pink sheets stock...very risky....
If it's going to ipo soon, it might be worthe a quicl play as an IPO, but ethanol isn't really doing well right now.
Longer term, a big board ethenol play would be much safer....I'm holding some OTD....there are many others...
GTL trades on the London AIM market but also in the US, on the aim the sp is 50% down from its high at 2.20p when production starts we are looking at 5p rising to ? when the revenue starts to flow.
ok, well....for me there's just too many others to play. Why would an Illinois co trade in London? just curious....
It happens, we also have Chinese stocks on our London markets.
yes, we have them here too,...but this GLT is listed here on the pink sheets and hasn't traded today at all....seems like most of the action would be nearer to home....curious...hmmmm
Anyway, good luck with it.
That is the point they are starting production soon now is the time to get on board if it starts trading in the US the sp will pick up big time.
Thanks but I'm really not interested in it. Pink sheets stocks are mostly manipulated and I don't have time to sit and watch for a big tank job. This applis eeven if the co is legit....the exchange is just too crooked. I try to stay on the big boards (mostly)
I hope you do well with it, though.
The End

Might also be worth pointing out that one of the reasons that it trades on the U.K. exchange is that it is a British company with it's head office in the U.K.
I believe it took over a U.S. based company, thus the Illinois connection.

just checked that site - it doesnt look like much of a place to sound out new investors - and if that guys rights (I have no idea if he is) then it is unlikely anyone there will invest in GTL if they are on the "Pink Sheets".
I think the SP. will do fantastic in the U.K. anyway but it's still a good idea driver.

UK planning law on climate change
The bill is being considered for the Queen's Speech next month
A climate change bill which could see regular targets put in place to cut UK carbon dioxide emissions is being considered by the government.
An independent system to gauge progress in reducing greenhouse gases is also likely to be included, BBC political editor Nick Robinson said.
The move follows a campaign by Friends of the Earth - supported by the Tories and Liberal Democrats - for such a law.
A Nasa study says the world is the warmest it has been for 12,000 years.

Came across this snippet from a Growth Report Newsletter (4 Oct 06) when clearing out my old e-mails:
'Bio, including Bio-Ethanol (made from crops like corn) and Biodiesal (produced from vegetable oils), is on a phenomenal upswing. U.S. Ethanol production last year grew to more than 4 billion gallons, produced by 106 facilities in the U.S. Biodiesal consumption in the U.S. grew from 25 million gallons per year in 2004 to 78 million in 2005, and is forecast to hit 300 million this year and 750 million in 2007. Currently, there are 15-20 biodiesal plants in the southeastern United States, each producing 1 30 million gallons per plant, with more facilities being built. Right now, the demand for ethanol and biodiesal for cars and trucks is estimated to more than double, to 6% of all road fuels in the next 4 years a $28.4 billion market.'

Yep, agree driver, we only need the $20 dollars a barrel price to be a comercial success. Legislation will drive this forward. Even the Republicans are turning green!

Poldark ..... yes you can ..... but imo, though the share is in the right sector, it's based in the wrong country (USA) and again imo, their raw amterial and process makes it currently too expensive

GTL as I understand is in profit and appears to have a good sound base for moving onwards and upwards, its been a good few weeks now and still the SP is not moving . To buy or not to buy at this stage, any thoughts welcome.

CHESNEY - different side of the arguement - U.S major push on ehtanol at the moment and in the future, GTL perfectly postioned to benefit.
Its rival Renova - RVA - has a market cap of roughly 10 mil more than GTL althouhg its only producing around 20 million barrels of ethanol P.A, GTL Will soon producing 50 million, forecast to rise to 100 in the not to distant future.
And for the ultimate long term GTL plans rapid construction of more ethanol plants around the U.S.
STRONG BUY. (No need to reply Cynic).
