I downloaded Spybot but it stopped a lot of adverts(which is good) but actually I can't see some of the adverts on my own home site where I have some banner exchanges. Anyone know how I can turn off the advert blocker?

I have reformatted my pc and changed from xp to 2000,all problems i had previously now resolved.
one question

I have no sound and cannot find the volume icon that is usually on the task bar,i have looked in sounds on my control panel but cannot find any reference to it.

can anyone point me in the right direction?

bristolbaz - 19 Mar 2003 19:45 - 314 of 11003

Mr. W.

In control panel --> sounds and audio devices

there is an option to show volume control on task bar

- if that is greyed out it is probable that you do not have either the correct driver installed for your sound card or no driver installed

check in the device manager for your sound card - dev manger is in control panel ---> system --> hardware

cheers baz

still cant figure it out i will have to contact a pc company tommorow

thanks again

I have just bought and set up one of these:

Vigor2600_white.jpg

A Vigor 2600w ADSL/ISDN Wireless router

I am using it as an internet gateway over ISDN. The box dials up the Internet for me and I can access the net via a direct ethernet connection to the box or wirelessly to the box.

My question is: I have always accessed the Internet direct from my PC and with Windows XP I've been using its firewall option for all internet connections. Now the router is dialling the connection - it has some sort of firewall built into it. I have activated the XP firewall protection on the Wireless Network Connection (a belkin card) in the Network Connections bit in XP, but am I really protected? Is the router still the weakest link and stuff could get through?

You should have your XP firewall turned on as well on the network connector

Good morning,
Could anyone please help with:
WinME PC and both scandisk and defrag won't work. This followed on from Word not opening due to low systems resources even with nothing else running!
I've managed to get Word working ok somehow. System Restore had been disabled but everyone in the family assures me they didn't disable it.
It's a "spare" family use PC not one my trading machines.
Thanks
Mr. Charts

Croc,

What are the system requirements for your analysis software please? Is it a standalone program or is it a file driven by spreadsheet or database software?

edit: Basically I'm not bright enough to build a database/spreadsheet myself from scratch. Would I be able to take your database, and perform a MA and/or RawK and/or RSI calculation on it for all 2500+ stocks and then filter them according to my other criteria?

hawkeye - 24 Mar 2003 15:37 - 320 of 11003

Could some kind guy remind how, on XP, I restore the system to how it was at a previous time and date. I have done it before but can't find the darned thing now.

Seymour Clearly - 25 Mar 2003 22:25 - 324 of 11003

Rick, suggest you may have a fault in outlook express, try reinstalling it either from Freeserve disc or from a magazine cover disc, should overwrite and save original settings but keep a note of them just in case!

Mega Bucks - 25 Mar 2003 22:30 - 325 of 11003

K tough problem.

I have a proxy/firewall installed.

Real player, Sharescope, MSN, Internet telephony, everything works.

Except D4F MM5.

what port do you input to get it to work ?

I have tried 1080 and 8080.
I know my server's IP address.

The strange thing is the old version works fine without me having to input anything under proxies....

mg,

Sorry, I did not spot your post before.

Just registering domains isnt enough to be able to get email working on them.

You need to have the domains hosted by a company, and they need to either set up email forwarding and web forwarding for the domains (in which case you choose which email address or website it points to), alternatively, and what will give you greater flexibility would be to have that company do the web/email hosting for you. However this is normally the more expensive option...

I personally use XCalibre for all my dns hosting, and I know a number of friends who use them too without any problems.

If you have any other questions regarding this, please email me: jonathan@moneyam.com and ill be happy to talk some more about it...

Mr Charts

Is your anti-virus software up to date? Some time ago I had a number of the variations of the nimda virus. They manifested themselves by making word behave very strangely (odd templates, unable to save doc's properly, low resources messages) and in a general degradation of the system performance. You can get fixes from the Symantec database if that is the problem. Not a tech person so no other suggestions I'm afraid.

Regards
Rob
