FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

B*ll*x, had totally forgot about IEC, was about to deal at 940 and then gapped up to 1000

dealerdear - 10 Oct 2008 09:15 - 3127 of 21973

it's ended in Birmingham.

Looked out the window and everything had gone.

WOW ....

Strawbs - 10 Oct 2008 09:21 - 3128 of 21973

We're all looking for the bottom.....just some of us don't think it's here......yet anyway.

In my opinion.

Strawbs.

dealerdear - 10 Oct 2008 09:27 - 3129 of 21973

I'll turn you into a raspberry if yer not careful ...

BigTed - 10 Oct 2008 09:29 - 3130 of 21973

DD... lol...!

imo fwiw i can see the DOW going down 500 first at open dragging us back down before we see a pull back, then Bush is going to have his little speech which wont make a blind bit of difference, but by tonight the worst will be over, and next week we can do things and other stuff...

Strawbs - 10 Oct 2008 09:32 - 3131 of 21973

If you can do magic like that DD, I suggest you turn your wand towards the market and turn this bear into a bull....

;-)

BigTed - 10 Oct 2008 09:35 - 3132 of 21973

I think theres been too much bullying going on this week, bearing that in mind i'm off to make a cuppa...anyone?

dealerdear - 10 Oct 2008 09:36 - 3133 of 21973

No magic would help my portfolio I'm afraid Strawbs.

HARRYCAT - 10 Oct 2008 09:37 - 3134 of 21973

One sugar please & a couple of those biscuits that fall apart when you dunk them.(Bit like everything else at the moment).

BigTed - 10 Oct 2008 09:43 - 3135 of 21973

Consider it well and truly 'dunked',
unbelievable what you find in the cupboards when you not looked for so long...
just found a midget living under my sink...

Strawbs - 10 Oct 2008 09:43 - 3136 of 21973

Sorry to hear it DD. Been there myself many years ago, and probably there now without knowing it (through my dwindling pension pot). Hopefully it will recover though. Although I'm totally bearish, I know if the markets continue to tank like this, we'll all be in very deep doo doo soon, share holder or not, this mess ruins lives.

Strawbs.

HARRYCAT - 10 Oct 2008 09:44 - 3137 of 21973

DOW futures still showing in negative territory (-119) so suggest caution in getting sucked in to a short bounce this morning.

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 09:47 - 3138 of 21973

Dow actually hit 8236 overnight so 8400 did not hold! Amazing gap trade this morning that did not participate in, well done to those who did dropping back now though

dealerdear - 10 Oct 2008 09:49 - 3139 of 21973

Still got some to trade though Strawbs so I'm still smiling.

2517GEORGE - 10 Oct 2008 09:51 - 3140 of 21973

Don't panic.

Well ! I could kick myself for not understanding this market well enough....sold some stock, but should have sold the lot weeks ago ! blast it !.

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 09:54 - 3142 of 21973

Is this a long weekend stateside?

Stan - 10 Oct 2008 09:57 - 3143 of 21973

Yes well spotted.

Strawbs - 10 Oct 2008 09:57 - 3144 of 21973

Ditto. I've been ultra bearish for ages. Was predicting this would all tank... Do I have any short positions or an SB/CFD account.... Nope! Probably the same reason the market is tanking. Too scared to risk my money like the majority of others I suppose...

Strawbs.

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 10:01 - 3145 of 21973

Time to stock up with food/fuel and might as well buy a gun and fishing rod whilst at it!
