Manager rewarded with contract until 2019
Everton have announced that Roberto Martinez has signed a new contract with the club that would keep him at Goodison Park until 2019.
The Catalan led the Blues back into Europe with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League in his first season charge and he has been rewarded with a two-year extension to his existing deal just 12 months after arriving from Wigan Athletic.
“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to make a further commitment to Everton," Martinez said in a statement on evertonfc.com. "I loved my first season at the Club. I could not be more proud of the way Everton performed throughout the entire season and the memories we were able to make together.
“I am really excited about next season. I knew from the moment I arrived at Everton that this was a special place and I'd like to thank everyone associated with the Club, the board, all the staff, the players and our brilliant supporters for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to build on the traditions and success of this great Club.”
I knew from the moment I arrived at Everton that this was a special place and I'd like to thank everyone associated with the Club.
Roberto Martinez
Chairman Bill Kenwright hailed the news, recognizing the impressive nature of Martinez's debut season in charge.
“In many commentators' eyes, Roberto Martinez is the best young manager in Europe," Kenwright said. "We agree. He took on an unfamiliar challenge for most managers; to take something really good and make it even better.
"When we find our man, we empower him. We support and provide him with everything at our disposal. We commit to our managers, and we're immensely pleased that Roberto has committed to us. We want the best because only the best will do.
“Unswervingly, we trust Roberto Martinez to take our Club forward. To use one of his favourite words we are ‘excited' about our future. We have Roberto at the helm. Sólo lo mejor!”

Martinez eyes targets at Dutch training session
Comments (31) jump
Roberto Martinez attended the Netherlands' training session in Rio today with his new best mate, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and that has fuelled speculation that he was there to check on two particular transfer targets in the form of Stefan de Vrijl and Jeremain Lens.
Everton have been linked with Feyenoord defender De Vrij before and Sky Sports believe that Martinez is also interested in Lens, a striker who joined Dynamo Kiev last year.
Martinez believes that the Dutch, who now fly to Salvador ahead of their tournament opener, should be regarded as dark horses for the World Cup

Kenwright hopeful over Lukaku and Barry
Chairman looks to keep two loan stars
Speaking with Sky Sports in the wake of the announcement of Roberto Martinez's new contract, Bill Kenwright says that Everton are hopeful of being able to bring both Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry to Goodison Park on a permanent basis. The Chairman says he has "good friends" at Stamford Bridge that might give the Blues an edge with regard to signing Lukaku while he plans to speak with Barry's representatives to iron out a deal for the 33 year-old.

Talk of your lot in for Don Cowie who is out of contract with us Stan. Rarely started for us last season which says it all really.
Will run all day but that's about it."
Dil, The fact that he will "run all day" will certainly fit in with the ethos around the club under Dyche these days, so who knows .
What position does he play?

I think that Spain will recover....if they pull themselves together and get their sharpness back : they will be a match for anybody.....they are past their peak but that doesn't mean they become a bad team overnight....

Blimey !..having had a good look at the draw :...if we did win the group and got through the following round : we would probably bump into the Dutch...get through that and it's the Argies...after that it's perhaps Brazil....could also be a Brazil-Germany semifinal...a second round Brazil-Spain...this could end with a Brazil-Argentina or Brazil-Holland.....I think we should just be happy with England doing their best, one game at a time and who knows ? ; they might just surprise us all.....it does seem that Argentina have the best route to the final...for Brazil : it will not be easy....

As a reminder:
England’s is in Group D and will play the following matches in a bid to get through to the knockout stages:
Saturday 14th June, 11pm, BBC One: England vs Italy
Thursday 19th June, 8pm, ITV: England vs Uruguay
Tuesday 24th June, 5pm, ITV: England vs Costa Rica
How else can you watch the matches?
It’s very unlikely anyone will be able to watch live matches in 4K at home in the UK.
The
BBC has announced it will trial UHD broadcasts from the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The closed trial will simultaneously broadcast over terrestrial TV and the internet, via a satellite link from Brazil to the UK. Unless you can get access to one of the BBC R&D facilities, you’re out of luck and will have to live with so-called Full HD on BBC One HD or ITV HD.
How to watch the World Cup: Online
The BBC has a
dedicated World Cup page on its website, which will be accessible from PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
To watch matches live, you’ll need to go to the iPlayer page in your browser, or use the iOS, Android or Windows Phone 8 app.
Similarly, you’ll be able to watch games shown on ITV live via the ITV Player website, or via the iOS, Android or Windows Phone 8 app.
As well as live matches, there will be extended coverage including analysis, highlights, news and interactive features. BBC is promising that all this content will be “available across any device at any time”.
How to watch the World Cup: On a smartphone or tablet via 3G or 4G
You can watch live TV via the
BBC iPlayer and ITV Player apps on iOS, Android and Windows Phone,
but bear in mind that this will quickly eat through your data allowance if you’re on 3G or 4G.

Chris, yep Milli put his foot in it. Set up a William Hill account mate, thanks for the advice. Got 3 0ut of 4 right up to date. Nice running profit, far better watching games when you have dosh on, should have done it years ago.
Think Im going for a draw with the Italians tonight, as usual will probably be the worst game to watch so far and bring the very high standards set so far back down to earth.
Just hope we have a go instead of playing backwards and crab football.
Cant understand why he thinks so much of this Henderson chap, id have Wilshire in alongside Gerrard.
Uruguay for a win in the other game against Costa Rica and leaving the other game Colombia v Greece alone too risky to bet on.
Fantastic World Cup so far, South Africa was so boring and noicey with them silly Vo vos or whatever they were called.
Just hope it carries on like this.

RF I agree with you about that Spanish penalty, no way was it a pen, but dont tell Stan that or ive had it.
Yep that draw as you outline above is very very tough but then again you have to beat these teams to go through.
Cant see Spain playing so badly again and fancy them to beat Chile mid week in fact id say thats my banker so far for the coming week.

Agree, never a penalty the Spaniard trod on the defenders trailing leg and nothing more. Mind you I think it did illustrates just what a difficult job refereeing is, 1st look I thought it was a pen, but from a different angle and in slow motion it obviously was not.. refs got no chance in real time sometimes of getting it right.
