LIBYA - updating news

cynic - 02 Mar 2011 11:48

starting this thread, which i hope will be short-lived, to keep the board up to date with latest reports gleaned from the net

cynic - 29 Mar 2011 12:52 - 313 of 685

you're very stupidly getting close to calling me a liar, as did MRSI aka Cielo - a damnfool thing to do

fact
in 1979 there were approx 80,000 jews living in iran and was (then) the largest concentration of jews in m/e outside israel

Bernard M - 29 Mar 2011 13:00 - 314 of 685

If you say so Mr pedantic. By the way here is the correct way to spell Iran, not iran

I'm still trying to work out the Billy Walker angle, always thought he was Annie Walkers son?

cynic - 29 Mar 2011 13:13 - 316 of 685

i do say so - actually, i much prefer persia as a nomenclature which resonates with its very long and interesting history and culture

A civilised country before the religious nutters took over - yes, even under Pahlavi.

Fred1new - 29 Mar 2011 13:31 - 318 of 685

c,
I always though you were only a little chappie or something like that 8-)

Your Libya seems to be getting messier and messier.

Absence of the tools and leadership.

I think they could have those SAS personalities Dave, George and George parachuted in.

Won't help them much, but will remove a few problems for Britain.

In The Land of the B - 29 Mar 2011 13:36 - 319 of 685

Eye-ran remains the biggest threat and that's where the world needs regime change before they attack Israel (hay parrot applauding) and we have nuclear war.

I came across this in my wanderings, and noting the date, I wonder whether this is related to the uprising in Libya.

Am I beginning to believe in conspiracies?

Gaddafi says looking at oil firm nationalization

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (R) gestures during a news conference in a tent in Kiev, November 6, 2008.

By Sue Pleming

WASHINGTON | Wed Jan 21, 2009 11:08pm GMT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Wednesday his country and other oil exporters were looking into nationalizing foreign firms due to low oil prices and suggested Tripoli might not stick to OPEC

cynic - 30 Mar 2011 12:25 - 321 of 685

spiracy schmiracy, as some might say!

in an age where news is live 24/7 we have rather come to expect things to be resolved quickly and easily ..... "world drama" can often feel like a tv serial with neat little conclusions at the end of each episode, which of course is ridiculous

Fred1new - 30 Mar 2011 12:30 - 322 of 685

Looking at Iraq and probably Libya and possibly Egypt your conclusion is possibly correct.

How will the Drama of Syria and SA work out?

cynic - 30 Mar 2011 12:47 - 323 of 685

iraq - coronation street
libya - the likely lads
egypt - carry on cleo
syria - pilot programme only
sa - never got past consideration

Bernard M - 30 Mar 2011 13:54 - 324 of 685

Is he slipping something to the frog

Fred1new - 30 Mar 2011 14:08 - 325 of 685

beebusy - 30 Mar 2011 15:53 - 329 of 685

Do any of you free thinking gentlemen honestly think that it will end when Gaddafi goes?? I say there will be one big bun fight while various factions try to wrest control from the others. We may well end up out of the frying pan so to speak !!!! You cannot knock the bravery shown but to what end?? I bet that in some shady little dens deals are all ready being struck and not by the people dodging the bullets.

cynic - 30 Mar 2011 16:11 - 330 of 685

it will at least be the end of the beginning, but it is indeed possible that the frogs will ultimately inherit a heron king

In The Land of the B - 30 Mar 2011 16:14 - 331 of 685

very Churchillian

beebusy - 30 Mar 2011 16:21 - 332 of 685

In the 1920/30s we would have backed them to the hilt until the chips were down then walk away as they were fed to the lions. As a nation we are not without guilt ask the cossacks!!
