Bite? Errrr, pot calling kettle methinks!! This particular hook has been well and truly swallowed by the so-called shark. Mind you not much of a shark on the golf course at the moment, more like a stickleback :-)

As you are so confident of beating me, lets make that the bet, I win, you pay my entry fee, you win, I...........err.............buy you a pint!! Fair enough?

pth

PS. 86 NETT??? Wish I had been there, would have popped a rib laughing!!

fliper - 10 May 2006 19:44 - 316 of 505

Fundamentalist - 10 May 2006 20:09 - 319 of 505

Made my first venture onto the couse today, most enjoyable it was too. Only played 9 holes at the local public course but managed 2 birdies and an eagle (wdie open course and front tees). Still hoping to make the day but having big probs re moving house that week

Fundamentalist - 10 May 2006 20:09 - 320 of 505

Mark

Thanks for the offer to accommodate my friend in the golf competition.

Unfortunatley, he suffered a bad knee injury on Monday which will keep out of golf for at least 3 months.(I think he fell off his wallet).

Look forward to meeting you all on 8th Jun.

Oh ok - guess I'll go if M goes ... just to watch the feathers flying off the birdies :)

You'll have to ask him nicely now though, Markie Mark - I'll hold the stick while he holds the bottle.

markusantonius - 11 May 2006 00:54 - 323 of 505

Everyone, please keep me updated re: exact handicaps, in the run up to "THE FIFTH MAJOR!". Thanks.

P.S. Rutherford, re: your "Wooden Spoon" suggestion... Good idea, sir. But better ask PTH if he's still got it? Our 2005 Inaugural Host only scored 16 pts last year on his own course, poor lad! I'm told he still has quite a few of these in his Trophy Cabinet though.

:o)

fliper - 11 May 2006 08:22 - 324 of 505

What is the points spread for the wooden spoon . 18 to 22 ?

EWRobson - 11 May 2006 13:46 - 326 of 505

Happy to take pth at 10:1! Mind, I will need to be his caddie. Stop him trying to whack the ball out of sight. Tight drive? - sorry Peter, here's your 5-wood. Go for tight well-binklered green with 3-wood? - sorry, Peter, here's your 5 iron for a nice lay up, then chip and putt for your par. Only condition? - Peter does likewise for me.

Eric

Not too sure where you get the idea that I consistantly attempt to hit the ball out of sight. If the pin is out of range then it is out of range, no point in having a lash with a 3 wood in an attempt to produce the longest hit in history. Granted, during a knock about I will try a variety of approaches, because that is what practise rounds are for. However, during a comp, I rarely try to play a shot that I know I can only achieve 10% of the time. My main problem at the moment is getting used to a new driver which I bought at the end of last summer. Once I get used to that my handicap will come down. All a matter of time.

EWRobson - 11 May 2006 17:19 - 328 of 505

pth The personality of a man is written in his face and his demeanour - and his occupation!

ptholden - 11 May 2006 17:29 - 329 of 505

Eric, it's ok for all you short hitters who can't reach even Par 4s in two, course management is not a problem, you all have to lay up anyway :-)

EWRobson - 11 May 2006 23:13 - 330 of 505

pth: So presumably you will give me two to one against me outdriving you at the longest drive hole? We should have our own little flag - of course you have to be on the fairway. What are the odds against you being on the fairway?

markusantonius - 12 May 2006 12:55 - 331 of 505

Course is looking (and playing!) immaculate ATM and the greens are now being cut 1mm lower c.t. previous years. Hence more emphasis on a "total game package" being required to win "The 5th. Major" in June, I think...

ptholden - 12 May 2006 16:31 - 332 of 505

Eric

Sounds like a reasonable bet, particularly as you have to get over a pond and a hoofin great tree before you even get to the fairway. No laying up on this one 150 yds!!

BTW. Exact handicap now 15.9 following Wednesday's Medal.
