How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Final testing of Pro is out there at the moment with other Betfair users. We are on track for a release very shortly.

It, probably, is my screen resolution. It was originally set at 1400x1050. However, I've reset to 1280x1024 and still having the same problem. What is the recommended max screen resolution?

Scripophilist - 02 Jun 2005 13:15 - 3138 of 10502

Odd, I see everything OK at 8*600 and 1024*768, Haven't tried a higher resolution but guessed only lower could cause an issue. Will give it a try.

Fundy, Has Code Orange won it? A good race to start on for the afternoon.

Scripophilist - 02 Jun 2005 14:31 - 3140 of 10502

Bakko, Tried different screen resolutions but everything is find over here. No sure what the issue is. If you can give me details of your setup I will see what we can do.

TPO - 02 Jun 2005 14:51 - 3141 of 10502

Bakko, what's the DPI setting on your PC? On this Dell I can find out by pressing the Advanced button in the Display Properties (from Control Panel). The PC standard is 96DPI, I've seen a number of applications behave strangely if the DPI is set to anything else.

bakko - 02 Jun 2005 14:53 - 3142 of 10502

Scrip, Will get details of my setup to you later. Thanks for trying to solve my problems but apologies for being a nuisance.

Despite problems I managed to pick up a nice earner from Henin game which seemed like a stroll from the scoreboard. Hope others did the same.

Scrip

code orange got beat in the photo

decided just to watch that race and red on the next 2 (1 winner 1 loser) - finally got a green one lol. Going to take a fair bit of adjustment i feel

bakko - 02 Jun 2005 15:11 - 3144 of 10502

Bingo!

Thanks TPO. Checked the DPI setting and it was at 120. Changed it to 96 and everything OK. All systems go again!
Thanks again.

It's men's semis at the French Open with the much anticipated big 2 clash of Fed v Nadal stealing the show. Both have been in scintillating form this year with a total harvest of 11 title wins between them (Fed's 6 to Nadal's 5).

Their head to head record stands at 1-1. Fed winning the last encounter over 5 sets having been 2-0 down.

Fed hasn't dropped a set during this tournament whilst Nadal has only lost 1.

I'm predicting a win for Fed but will be nipping in and out on this game as it should present excellent trading opportunities.

Had a punt on the Oaks. Getting into this horse racing thingy. Virgina waters.

Scripophilist - 03 Jun 2005 16:17 - 3148 of 10502

Never mind. I didn't lose money at least!

Harlosh - 03 Jun 2005 17:07 - 3149 of 10502

bak,

thanks for the analysis. Will probably join you but not sure what strategy to adopt yet. Will watch to begin with and probably look to lay when an opportunity presents itself.

Fundamentalist - 03 Jun 2005 17:29 - 3150 of 10502

John

did you get my mail?

Fundamentalist - 03 Jun 2005 17:31 - 3151 of 10502

Nadal breaks federer in the first game

Harlosh - 03 Jun 2005 17:46 - 3152 of 10502

Steve,

Should be OK for tomorrow thanks. Will let you know in an hour or so.

I haven't got the Federer/Nadal game as an option on AB Pro. Is it just me? Can someone check please??????????????

Harlosh - 03 Jun 2005 17:50 - 3153 of 10502

It would appear to be only available via the main Betfair screen, not via the All Markets on the left which seems to have thrown AB Pro a problem. Not seen that before.

Makes trading it a problem.

Dil - 03 Jun 2005 18:59 - 3154 of 10502

Craig 1.63 favourite to stay in Big Brother house tonight but his odds to finish top male or win seem way out of sync if he does stay.

Pity its so illiquid.

Harlosh - 03 Jun 2005 19:25 - 3155 of 10502

Mens singles now appeared on AB Pro.
