FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Dow actually hit 8236 overnight so 8400 did not hold! Amazing gap trade this morning that did not participate in, well done to those who did dropping back now though

Yes well spotted.

Strawbs - 10 Oct 2008 09:57 - 3144 of 21973

Ditto. I've been ultra bearish for ages. Was predicting this would all tank... Do I have any short positions or an SB/CFD account.... Nope! Probably the same reason the market is tanking. Too scared to risk my money like the majority of others I suppose...

Strawbs.

Time to stock up with food/fuel and might as well buy a gun and fishing rod whilst at it!

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 10:14 - 3147 of 21973

Signalwatch mentioning 11 year support at 7500 now that 8400 has gone in the futures. Trader Tom mentions possibility of short covering into close and nationalisation of Goldman and MorganStanley on Monday, just a normal Friday!

dealerdear - 10 Oct 2008 10:15 - 3148 of 21973

HARRYCAT - 10 Oct 2008 10:21 - 3150 of 21973

I used to be worth 4 x salary dead according to my pension statement. I wonder if that still holds up? Worth less than my portfolio now, so I doubt it.

Falcothou - 10 Oct 2008 10:27 - 3151 of 21973

How does that song go?...It's raining men...
I'll leave a spare bullet in the magazine dealer, you should find it smoking next to my desk!
