How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Game to Nadal. At least, I didn't get caught out this time.

I was very green at the start of both semis as I piled in on both Fed and Nad at the beginning of the tournament fully expecting them to meet in the semi.

I can't see Nadal losing the final after today's outing.

Should open some opportunities for Wimbledon. I have some interesting stats in front of me on the Tennis. I have 20 days to some up with some new stuff on the Tennis.

Lions shot into a 17-0 lead and traded heavily at 1.01. Twenty minutes later and 17-17 - is deja vu happening for lions backers

Dil - 04 Jun 2005 09:11 - 3174 of 10502

Lol , good anyone backing that lot deserves what they get ... I did well out of the Argie game.

Laying the Lions every match may be a better bet .

Dil - 04 Jun 2005 09:53 - 3175 of 10502

Fundy , there have been many opportunities to back the Lions and B of P simultaneously during the second half.

Draw is always a big outsider until near the end so some easy money was had , I'll have to get up earlier next week.

Fundamentalist - 04 Jun 2005 09:58 - 3176 of 10502

Tend to agree Dil, I nicked a few quid from the lions near the end but the trading opportunities on rugby are mainly at the start of a game unless the game is very close

Fundamentalist - 04 Jun 2005 09:59 - 3177 of 10502

Dil, next game is wednesday, you should be up in time :-) and next saturdays game is against the NZ maoris which should be a real tough match

Dil - 04 Jun 2005 10:06 - 3178 of 10502

I backed Wales at 28's v England in the RWC and greened up half time at 4's :-)

Scripophilist - 04 Jun 2005 17:25 - 3180 of 10502

For tennis fan's the final between Nadal and Puerta is live on BBCi

Nadal is already 3-1 up in the 1st set and the trainer has been called on for Puerta

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 14:55 - 3182 of 10502

Puerta, after the trainer incident has broken back and is now 4-3 ahead

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 15:27 - 3183 of 10502

Puerta has won the 1st set after some sensational tennis from both players

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:36 - 3184 of 10502

Just got in so missed most of the game. Looks pretty much over now.

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:38 - 3185 of 10502

It is over.

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 17:41 - 3186 of 10502

A sensational match. Match to Nadal.

John, Both players played games of their lives.
My respect goes to Puerta who gave Nadal a run for his money.

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:45 - 3187 of 10502

I trust you made the most of Puerto's fighting spirit bak?

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 17:57 - 3188 of 10502

John,

To be honest his play frightened me a little. I was trading Nadal and ended the wrong side a few times. Could've done with Scrip's Betangel Pro with it's trailing stop losses for games like this. Having seen Nadal play quite a few times I was quietly confident he would win. But covered Puerta with a hedge before the semis.

All in all a very succesful French open for me. Roll on Wimbledon!

Watching the US racing again this evening. Volume is slowly picking up over there. Not long and I think the US races could become quite tradable. I guess once the market catches on to this the volume will rise a lot.
