How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Details should be out by the end of next week. We are just putting it through some cosmetic changes at the moment.

For tennis fan's the final between Nadal and Puerta is live on BBCi

Nadal is already 3-1 up in the 1st set and the trainer has been called on for Puerta

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 14:55 - 3182 of 10502

Puerta, after the trainer incident has broken back and is now 4-3 ahead

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 15:27 - 3183 of 10502

Puerta has won the 1st set after some sensational tennis from both players

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:36 - 3184 of 10502

Just got in so missed most of the game. Looks pretty much over now.

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:38 - 3185 of 10502

It is over.

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 17:41 - 3186 of 10502

A sensational match. Match to Nadal.

John, Both players played games of their lives.
My respect goes to Puerta who gave Nadal a run for his money.

Harlosh - 05 Jun 2005 17:45 - 3187 of 10502

I trust you made the most of Puerto's fighting spirit bak?

bakko - 05 Jun 2005 17:57 - 3188 of 10502

John,

To be honest his play frightened me a little. I was trading Nadal and ended the wrong side a few times. Could've done with Scrip's Betangel Pro with it's trailing stop losses for games like this. Having seen Nadal play quite a few times I was quietly confident he would win. But covered Puerta with a hedge before the semis.

All in all a very succesful French open for me. Roll on Wimbledon!

Watching the US racing again this evening. Volume is slowly picking up over there. Not long and I think the US races could become quite tradable. I guess once the market catches on to this the volume will rise a lot.

Scripophilist - 05 Jun 2005 23:10 - 3190 of 10502

Completed some prelim work on the Tennis will try and get some stuff posted up before Wimbledon.

Scripophilist - 06 Jun 2005 11:47 - 3191 of 10502

Looks like the site will be back up around 13:30 at the moment.

kernow - 06 Jun 2005 13:06 - 3192 of 10502

..now 14.30 and counting. Let's also hope the disaster of the last "upgrade" is not repeated.

Scripophilist - 06 Jun 2005 13:22 - 3193 of 10502

I think today is a write off in all honesty. I'm not keen on ploughing back into the market after the issues they had last time. Would prefer to see what the stability is like before putting money into the market.

Scripophilist - 06 Jun 2005 15:02 - 3194 of 10502

Well its back up but a little slow. If anybody else can document their experiances, would be useful.

Fundamentalist - 06 Jun 2005 15:04 - 3195 of 10502

Scrip

the site is back at my end but has hung as soon as i tried to log in

Scripophilist - 06 Jun 2005 15:06 - 3196 of 10502

Only partial loading over here. I'm will avoid for the rest of the day and will use it for testing only.

Fundamentalist - 06 Jun 2005 15:09 - 3197 of 10502

Ive now got on the site, it is taking 2/3 mins to load a race up and the screen is not loading properly - going to cut the lawn then take another look

Scripophilist - 06 Jun 2005 15:14 - 3198 of 10502

Seems to be better over here but nobody is taking a risk by the look of it. Liquidity is non existant!
