AB, well done, I Have sent you a message (edit no I haven't you have blocked messages ;-( )

Anyway re Java, In my view Sun are a bit confusing with their naming but most users only need the Runtime Environment which Sun calls JRE (Java Run Time) they now have a separate site with runtime versions and the following URL should always be the latest version.

http://java.com/en/download/download_the_latest.jsp

I updated my Java this morning to the following :

Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_02-b09)
Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Following the update I can no longer use my mouse wheel to scroll through my MAM stockwatch screen. Has anybody any ideas?

p.s. all other MAM screens work OK.

Control Panel/Uninstall all java programs

Go to Stockwatch - for which you will need Java - and then install Java from the link on the moneyAM Stockwatch page

So far as I know, Sun Java never has had mouse wheel support. I can't really believe this to be the case, but it is obviously too much of a challenge for most sites to implement.

Docproc & Optimist many thanks for your help. Ive uninstalled all java programmes via add/remove and reinstalled using the MAM link. Still the same no mouse wheel on stockwatch. The MAM java link updated my java to the same version as this morning.

Optimist - 22 Apr 2005 10:31 - 3192 of 11003

For mousewheel support you have to use MS Java. The MAM link is to Sun Java.

Microsoft no longer supply java. How can I get a copy?

I haven't got a link but you could do a google search or hope that someone can post one here.

Hmmm? Not for me it isn't, but I could easily be wrong about that. In any event I bow to your superior knowledge on this stuff.

'Javaws.exe' seems to be the only Java execution file on my machine. This appears to run a program called Java Web Start, which is the Sun Java product and my mouse wheel does seem to work OK.

Also, using the Belarc Advisor audit program, Java Web Start does appear to be the only Java software on my machine. But I do suppose I could somehow be wrong about that.

Thanks for your help Optimist.

My mouse wheel with stockwatch now works all by itself!!!!

Optimist - 22 Apr 2005 11:15 - 3198 of 11003

Doc

That's interesting. I have followed the Java link at the top of the stockwatch and this downloads Sun Java V1.5 which is also known as Java 5.

I tried enabling this on my computer but if I click on the Stockwatch, the mousewheel doesn't work. If I first click on the white space around the stockwatch it does.

If you first click on the body of the stockwatch dooes the mousewhheel work?
Have you got Sun Java enabled in Tools/Internet Options - Advanced Tab?

paul1812 - 22 Apr 2005 11:49 - 3199 of 11003

Optimist

Java enabled in options. Your right in that the wheel does not work on loading stockwatch unless I click first on a white bit. Strange!!

oops!!

Optimist - 22 Apr 2005 11:55 - 3201 of 11003

That's exactly the same as mine. If the Stockwatch Java applet has focus, it can't process the mousewheel input.

If you use Microsoft Virtual Machine instead of Sun Java it will work.

Optimist - 22 Apr 2005 12:04 - 3202 of 11003

I have not checked this out but it says that it is a link to download Microsoft VM http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html

paul1812 - 22 Apr 2005 14:09 - 3203 of 11003

Optimist

Downloaded MSJVM from the suggested site and it is still the same. I must click on a white space to activate the mouse wheel. Not sure about MSJVM now that MS has dropped it. May just stick to Sun java

Many thanks for your time and help

Paul

In Internet Explorer, go Tools/Internet options then the Advanced Tab, find the Java (Sun) heading and make sure that the option Use JRE..... is not checked. Close the browser and when you re open you should be using MS VM.

There is nothing wrong with MS VM, they stopped supplying it because of a legal dispute with Sun. Both versions can be installed on the same machine, but IE will use only the Sun JRE is the above b ox is checked.
