THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

UK mortgage approvals highest since February 2008

September figures likely to be seized on by those who argue government's Help to Buy scheme risks creating new bubble

Katie Allen

theguardian.com, Tuesday 29 October 2013 11.39 GMT

Mortgages approved by British lenders jumped to their highest level for more than five years in September, fanning fears the housing market was already heating up even before the latest government support kicked in.

Banks, building societies and other lenders approved 66,735 mortgages in September, the biggest monthly total since February 2008, before the global financial crisis took hold.

The figures, from the Bank of England, were just ahead of City forecasts of 66,000 and compared with an upwardly revised 63,396 in August. Mortgage approvals are seen by economists as a good early indicator of where the housing market is headed.

I fear that first time buyers are being led up the garden path and will end up with negative equity when the help to buy scheme is withdrawn and interest rates rise. And if they default, the taxpayer will pick up the bill.

The government don't really give a shit. They just need the bubble to last up to 2015.

cynic - 29 Oct 2013 16:15 - 31877 of 81564

perhaps before making one (yet another) of your silly political comments, you may want to have a look at historical mortgage information .... i don't have any idea of the answer, but i wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that, even before the so-called bubble got to a so-called critical mass, that mortgage applications were considerably higher

the number of houses on estate agents books and/or the speed with which they turned properties would also be interesting

Interesting grilling of Energy Supply cheifs by MPs.

Looks to me like John Major was correct a one off Wind Fall Tax and breaking up of the big boys is required to create competition.

This of course would be sorted By Milli during 2015 to 2017.

Torries idea of swithching eco taxes to the tax system is just a transfer of blame and would still leave customers with bigger bills.

Interesting the smallest provider reckons he can provide energy 13% cheaper than the big boys and very notable the big cheese are getting record busting pay rises whilst the rest of us suffer.

Milly should have a good PMQs tomorrow on the back of this.

EU seeks to standardise the flush on lavatories

European Commission to unveil new EU rules setting a standard flush for lavatories

By Bruno Waterfield, Brussels

6:14PM GMT 29 Oct 2013

The European Union will next week unveil new rules to standardise the flush on lavatories despite the admission that there are "very significant variations" on flushing habits across Europe "including cultural aspects".

Plans for the harmonised euro-flush will be tabled by the European Commission as part of an "Ecolabel" acting as a gold standard for officially approved lavatories aimed at cutting water use.

Martin Callanan MEP, the leader of the Conservative bloc in the European Parliament and Tory spokesman on EU environment measures, condemned the proposals.

He accused the commission of breaking a promise made by its president José Manuel Barroso, in a Telegraph article last week, to cut red tape by not meddling in "small things".

Red faced and blustering.

Hear that the Papers lose Privy Council injunction bid.

Interesting to see when the dust settles who will get the the backlash.

The most likely conclusion of the Privy Council papers system is that the Guardian, Independent and others will ignore it. At some stage they will be hit with a very large fine and appeal to the EU court and win. That will leave the system in ruins and show that it is pointless.

goldfinger - 30 Oct 2013 15:07 - 31892 of 81564

I remember the debate we had at the time.

Well done to that young lady for sticking it out and proving I D S is nothing but a bully boy who blames the working classes for his fall down the Tory Ranks.

goldfinger - 30 Oct 2013 15:11 - 31893 of 81564

Yes Fred, Fat Dave was trying to win some much needed ground today after his last 4 apperances in PMQs, but sadly yet again failed miserably in fact at one point I thought he was going to blow up. Lynton Crosbys aggresive tactics are failing.

Milli is very crafty in that he is keeping the energy debate going, expect the polls to show labours lead stretching further this weekend.
