<>Desire Petroleum plc (Desire) is a UK company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) dedicated to exploring for oil and gas in the North Falkland Basin.

Desire has recently completed a 6 well exploration programme. The Liz well encountered dry gas and gas condensate at 2 separate levels while other wells recorded shows.
Together with the Rockhopper Exploration Sea Lion oil discovery in the licence to the north, these wells have provided significant encouragement for the potential of the North Falkland Basin. The oil at Sea Lion is of particular interest as this has demonstrated that oil is trapped in potentially significant quantities in a fan sandstone on the east flank of the basin. It is believed that over 50% of this east flank play fairway is on Desire operated acreage.

Desire has now completed new 3D seismic acquisition which provides coverage over the east flank play, Ann, Pam and Helen prospects. The results from fast-track processing of priority areas are provided in the 2011 CPR. A farm-out to Rockhopper has been announced. As there are almost 50% of the last posts replying to 'cynic' it is starting to make reading this thread a waste of time, although I have him squelched.
So please don't reply to him. All those that do only fuel his strange need to post his drivel.
I would hate to stop reading this thread, as there is often a bundle of good info posted, especially for someone such as myself who is not invested in Des directly so do not know the company in such depth as you do, but use the thread due to any info from the Falkland Fields reflecting on my investment in FKL.
Please don't take this post as a personal dig, as I value your input (not cynic obviously).

am happy to admit that it looks as though i was wrong (yet again!) ..... at best, i fully expected DES to fall back to about 70p quite rapidly, and patently it shows a strong disinclination to do so ...... of DES, FOGL and RKH, i think i would plump for DES of this falklands trio as it seems to lead the pack

Morning Rob,

Been good volume over the last few days and I think we will see the share price creep up and down for a while but one thing for sure is when the rig leaves the shipyard after re fit and head for the Falklands it will do the same as it did back in 1998 and the share price will get higher and higher week by week.

On 10 September 2009 Desire announced that they had exchanged letters of intent with Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK) Ltd for a rig to undertake a minimum four well drilling campaign in the North Falkland Basin. The rig is due to arrive in Falkland waters in February 2010. In addition Desire has options to drill a further four wells for itself or its partners. Exercising this option may require further fund raising in the future.




Desire's share price has responded to this news and is currently trading at 90.75p per share as compared to 31 December 2008 middle market price of 26.75p per share. The company currently holds 4,100,000 shares in Desire and the market liquidity in the shares has improved considerably. In August this year the Falkland Island Council granted the necessary environmental consents for the proposed drilling programme

Desire Petroleum: Drilling Programme


Desire Petroleum has announced that the company has signed a letter of intent with Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK) Ltd for the drilling unit the Ocean Guardian to undertake a drilling campaign in their acreage in the North Falkland Basin. Desire Petroleum anticipate that the rig will start drilling wells in February 2010. This is very good news for the Falklands and will move the exploration programme forward in the northern area to establish whether there are commercial quantities of oil or gas there.


Desire Petroleums Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was approved by Executive Council in August and now that the company has identified a rig to work here, the required addendum giving details of the rig and the drilling programme can be prepared and forwarded to this Committee.


The Mineral Resources Department with the support of BGS, will work through all the necessary approvals that need to be in place before drilling starts.


Rockhopper Exploration: EIS


Rockhopper Explorations EIS will be considered at the meeting of Executive Council on 17 September and as with Desire Petroleum, it is anticipated that the company will also need to provide additional information in an addendum providing details of their drilling programme.


Department working with Licensees


Since the last committee meeting the Mineral Resources Department has maintained close links with all licensees. Monthly reports are received from the companies on their activities and all the companies are moving forward with their work programmes. Dr Phil Richards from BGS is well placed to meet with individual operators either at the BGS offices in Edinburgh or at the company offices in or near London.



Visit by FCO consultant


Mr Fred Rokitta, an FCO consultant reviewing safety and security provision in relation to an offshore drilling programme, visited the Islands from 3 11 August. He met with government officials with responsibility for offshore safety and security and emergency planning. He also met with Legislative Assembly members and MOD. FIG welcomes the support given by the FCO in preparing for a second drilling programme in Falklands waters.

From 1st October the Department will be separate from the Department of Agriculture and run by the Director of Mineral Resources. Katrina Stephenson will move to the DOA. Thank you to Katrina for her work with Mineral Resources matters over the last four years and for so ably taking the minutes of this meeting.

Resistance 108.00p and is the high for the year and just reading the graph looks like we are ready for next step up, the Bollinger Bands are 35.4% wider than normal. So a little more luck today and tomorrow we should get a new high for the year...me hopes!!

We have a new high for the year the next line of resistance is 1.25p!!!The story below will help us get there as news around the corner.

Falklands drilling campaign hailed

THE imminent signing of a contract for a drilling campaign off the Falkland Islands was hailed last night as a sign of Aberdeen's development as a future global energy hub.

City council Labour group leader Barney Crockett highlighted the development on the other side of the world at Labour's Brighton conference, where the Falklands government has a stand.

Diamond Offshore Drilling, the world-leading Texas oil exploration company with its North Sea headquarters in Aberdeen, confirmed it is about to sign an agreement with Desire Petroleum.

This will see the drilling rig Ocean Guardian, currently at Invergordon for repair and upgrading work, undergo a two-month tow in December and January for a campaign of a minimum of four wells starting in February.

Desire declined to disclose the value of the contract but a source said the enormous amount" being spent was an indication of the company's belief in the potential of the Falklands Basin.

It is seeking further capital to drill additional wells.

Mr Crockett said the development, in waters also claimed by Argentina, depends on security support available from the UK Government.

He said: This is a model for Aberdeen's future development. We need it to become a world city servicing the world's energy industries.

Our offshore industry has a willingness to go to places where there are opportunities like this.

The Falklands director of mineral resources, Phyl Rendell, said this was the second drilling campaign but it was exploration" and no oil had been found yet.

Mr Crockett said there was the potential to create many jobs in the future. This is an example of the way forward for the north-east. To work in the Falklands requires a particular type of person willing to go extra miles. We have these people.
