Desire Petroleum are drilling in Falklands (DES)

free hit countersDesire Petroleum

<>Desire Petroleum plc (Desire) is a UK company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) dedicated to exploring for oil and gas in the North Falkland Basin.

Desire has recently completed a 6 well exploration programme. The Liz well encountered dry gas and gas condensate at 2 separate levels while other wells recorded shows.
Together with the Rockhopper Exploration Sea Lion oil discovery in the licence to the north, these wells have provided significant encouragement for the potential of the North Falkland Basin. The oil at Sea Lion is of particular interest as this has demonstrated that oil is trapped in potentially significant quantities in a fan sandstone on the east flank of the basin. It is believed that over 50% of this east flank play fairway is on Desire operated acreage.

Desire has now completed new 3D seismic acquisition which provides coverage over the east flank play, Ann, Pam and Helen prospects. The results from fast-track processing of priority areas are provided in the 2011 CPR. A farm-out to Rockhopper has been announced. The revised equities are shown on the licence map (subject to regulatory approval and completion of the farm-in well).

Morning Rob,

Been good volume over the last few days and I think we will see the share price creep up and down for a while but one thing for sure is when the rig leaves the shipyard after re fit and head for the Falklands it will do the same as it did back in 1998 and the share price will get higher and higher week by week.

From Westmount Energy results yesterday

1. Desire Petroleum Plc (Desire)

On 10 September 2009 Desire announced that they had exchanged letters of intent with Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK) Ltd for a rig to undertake a minimum four well drilling campaign in the North Falkland Basin. The rig is due to arrive in Falkland waters in February 2010. In addition Desire has options to drill a further four wells for itself or its partners. Exercising this option may require further fund raising in the future.

Desire's share price has responded to this news and is currently trading at 90.75p per share as compared to 31 December 2008 middle market price of 26.75p per share. The company currently holds 4,100,000 shares in Desire and the market liquidity in the shares has improved considerably. In August this year the Falkland Island Council granted the necessary environmental consents for the proposed drilling programme

Desire Petroleum: Drilling Programme

Desire Petroleum has announced that the company has signed a letter of intent with Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK) Ltd for the drilling unit the Ocean Guardian to undertake a drilling campaign in their acreage in the North Falkland Basin. Desire Petroleum anticipate that the rig will start drilling wells in February 2010. This is very good news for the Falklands and will move the exploration programme forward in the northern area to establish whether there are commercial quantities of oil or gas there.

Desire Petroleums Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was approved by Executive Council in August and now that the company has identified a rig to work here, the required addendum giving details of the rig and the drilling programme can be prepared and forwarded to this Committee.

The Mineral Resources Department with the support of BGS, will work through all the necessary approvals that need to be in place before drilling starts.

Rockhopper Exploration: EIS

Rockhopper Explorations EIS will be considered at the meeting of Executive Council on 17 September and as with Desire Petroleum, it is anticipated that the company will also need to provide additional information in an addendum providing details of their drilling programme.

Department working with Licensees

Since the last committee meeting the Mineral Resources Department has maintained close links with all licensees. Monthly reports are received from the companies on their activities and all the companies are moving forward with their work programmes. Dr Phil Richards from BGS is well placed to meet with individual operators either at the BGS offices in Edinburgh or at the company offices in or near London.

Visit by FCO consultant

Mr Fred Rokitta, an FCO consultant reviewing safety and security provision in relation to an offshore drilling programme, visited the Islands from 3 11 August. He met with government officials with responsibility for offshore safety and security and emergency planning. He also met with Legislative Assembly members and MOD. FIG welcomes the support given by the FCO in preparing for a second drilling programme in Falklands waters.

FIG restructure

From 1st October the Department will be separate from the Department of Agriculture and run by the Director of Mineral Resources. Katrina Stephenson will move to the DOA. Thank you to Katrina for her work with Mineral Resources matters over the last four years and for so ably taking the minutes of this meeting.

Falklands drilling campaign hailed
Well contract highlighted by Aberdeen councillor
By David Perry

Published: 01/10/2009

THE imminent signing of a contract for a drilling campaign off the Falkland Islands was hailed last night as a sign of Aberdeen's development as a future global energy hub.

City council Labour group leader Barney Crockett highlighted the development on the other side of the world at Labour's Brighton conference, where the Falklands government has a stand.

Diamond Offshore Drilling, the world-leading Texas oil exploration company with its North Sea headquarters in Aberdeen, confirmed it is about to sign an agreement with Desire Petroleum.

This will see the drilling rig Ocean Guardian, currently at Invergordon for repair and upgrading work, undergo a two-month tow in December and January for a campaign of a minimum of four wells starting in February.

Desire declined to disclose the value of the contract but a source said the enormous amount" being spent was an indication of the company's belief in the potential of the Falklands Basin.

It is seeking further capital to drill additional wells.

Mr Crockett said the development, in waters also claimed by Argentina, depends on security support available from the UK Government.

He said: This is a model for Aberdeen's future development. We need it to become a world city servicing the world's energy industries.

Our offshore industry has a willingness to go to places where there are opportunities like this.

The Falklands director of mineral resources, Phyl Rendell, said this was the second drilling campaign but it was exploration" and no oil had been found yet.

Mr Crockett said there was the potential to create many jobs in the future. This is an example of the way forward for the north-east. To work in the Falklands requires a particular type of person willing to go extra miles. We have these people.

Desire Petroleum buoyed by independent survey of main prospects

05 October 2009

Ahead of a planned drilling campaign on its acreage in the North Falkland Basin early next year, Desire Petroleum has received independent confirmation that it is sitting on more than three billion barrels of unrisked, prospective recoverable resources on its top 10 prospects.

Desire commissioned Senergy to produce the CPR to confirm its views on the prospectivity of the North Falkland Basin and particularly the robustness of its oil and gas prospects. Desire's top ten prospects include Liz, Ann, Alpha, Dawn, Jacinta, Beth, Ninky, Rachel, Helen and Pam.

Senergys found that the mean, gross, unrisked prospective recoverable resources in the ten prospects was over 4.6 billion barrels. The net figure for Desire is three billion barrels.

In turn, the mean, gross, unrisked prospect size ranges from 122 million barrels recoverable (Ninky) to 1,631 million barrels recoverable (Alpha).

It also found that the hydrocarbon type in Desires Southern prospects could be oil or gas but on balance are considered more likely to be oil.

Fourteen different play types have been identified, eight in the north and six in the south, of which, only three were partially tested in the 1998 drilling campaign.

Finally, Senergy concluded that at US$ 50/barrel oil price, the minimum economic threshold was a 56 million barrel recoverable field.

to my mind, that is almost the most interesting bit, as i really do not think we will see that low a crude price again, except perhaps as a blip

Considering options including share sale to fund drilling

* Plans to drill at least two wells with Desire Petroleum

* Rockhopper shares fall 4 pct (Adds details)

Oct 8 (Reuters) - North Falkland Basin oil and gas explorer Rockhopper Exploration Plc (RKH.L: Quote, Profile, Research) confirmed on Thursday it was considering various options, including a share sale, to fund its drilling activities.

Responding to media speculation about an equity financing, the company also said it intended to drill a minimum of two wells on its operated acreage, along with partner Desire Petroleum Plc (DES.L: Quote, Profile, Research).

The Financial Times on Wednesday quoted traders as saying Desire Petroleum was looking to raise 50 million pounds ($79.96 million) by selling new shares at 75 pence each, while Rockhopper was planning to raise up to 50 million pounds by selling shares at a price yet to be determined, to help finance their drilling programmes in the Falkland Islands. On Sept. 10, Desire Petroleum signed a contract with Diamond Offshore Drilling (UK) Ltd to secure a rig to drill a minimum of four wells in the Falklands Islands, starting February 2010. Rockhopper shares were down 4 percent at 82 pence, while Desire Petroleum was down 1.8 percent at 98 pence at 0754 GMT on the London Stock Exchange. Harry from the 10 september RNS Drilling Rig Contract - Letter of Intent

"The Company believes that with a rig becoming active in the North Falkland Basin the Company should endeavour to drill as many wells as possible to test the full potential of this highly prospective area. To this end Desire is investigating with its advisors the best course of action to raise additional funds prior to mobilisation to ensure the area is appraised as widely as possible. It is Desire's intention that shareholders will have the opportunity to participate in the fund raising."

HARRYCAT - 08 Oct 2009 15:40 - 3238 of 6492

Ah, thanks marky. On that basis though, a dip in the sp to compensate is likely imo. Of course the wording is such that only existing holders will be offered more stock.
I have sometimes found that offering only institutional investors discounted shares seems to have little effect on the sp.

markymar - 08 Oct 2009 16:44 - 3239 of 6492

Harry, the last 2 fundraisings one in 2004 and 2005 both were well over subscribed by there loyal share holders and I would expect this time it will be well over subscribed again.

With a spud date of early February and when that rigs sets sail to the Falklands the share price will do exactly as it did in 1998 get higher and higher the closer it gets to the Falklands to drill.
