StLuke,

Although I am not familiar with this product you need to be looking at setting such as enable Java.

Regards

Ian

There may be helpful suggestions in the gospels?

Spaceman - 28 Apr 2005 13:22 - 3237 of 11003

K, there wont be ;-)

I needa Crash Course in how to use Powerpoint, for a Presentation.
Any good sites or Info you can provide will be much appreciated

Spaceman - 03 May 2005 09:26 - 3239 of 11003

Iain, cant help with the use of powerpoint but it is a bit different to the rest of the office suite, personally I don't like the look and feel of it but many others do like it.

My advise is to keep the presentation simple, don't fill it up with pretty slides and music, film clips and sounds, just use simple bullet points and diagrams. I have to sit through many presentations where you can tell the presenter must have spend days creating a presentation that contains very little substance but a great deal of waffle and pretty but extraneous crap.

I just use the built in templates and list main points that I want to cover. The odd diagram helps but that's it for me.

Iain, sorry didnt mean to sound like a school teacher, you probably know that stuff I posted above.

Optimist - 03 May 2005 09:51 - 3241 of 11003

Iain

I agree with Spaceman re keeping it simple, but if you want a crash course then the best place to start is with one of Wizards included with PowerPoint.

For the last few days this site and advfn have run like dogs for me on this PC. Suddenly noticed a temporary message flash at the bottom of the screen saying 'spybot blocked Avenue A, Inc' and realised my son had installed Spybot (a spyware blocking programme). Uninstalled and back to normal on both sites thank God. (ADVFN was showing Double Click blocked BTW).

Maybe this may help someone in the future 'cause had I been a newcomer to either site I'd probably have not bothered to go any further with either. Maybe Moneyam tech departmant might find it of interest as well?

Iain - 03 May 2005 12:23 - 3243 of 11003

Not at all Space.Ive never used Powerpoint before. So thanks for tips.
Cheers Optomist

Spaceman - 03 May 2005 13:30 - 3244 of 11003

bb, spybot does have a blocking function but that is not its main use, if that part of the program is causing problems it can be switched off but i would not uninstall the whole program as it is very useful. I use spybot with the real time scan enabled and my machine runs fine.

I know that I'm probably not giving enough information, but why would my laptop recognise my old phone via infrared, but won't recognise my new phone? I've activated IR on the phone but it won't display an icon on the Taskbar to show that there's a connection.

Optimist - 05 May 2005 12:05 - 3246 of 11003

Hilary

You have not really given enough information;-)

A couple of things to look into, does your new phone require any software to be loaded onto the PC? Are you certain that the infrared on your new phone is working? Try getting the two phones to talk to each other first.

hilary - 05 May 2005 12:56 - 3247 of 11003

I thought you might say that, Opti.

:o)

Thanks for your help. I've now managed to get the phone and PC talking and have transferred data via the Taskbar icon (drag and drop), but I can't get the Samsung software to communicate. It seems strange that they should call it EasyStudio!!! Perhaps that's their idea of a joke.

Optimist - 05 May 2005 15:11 - 3248 of 11003

Hilary

I'm afraid i don't know anything about the Samsung but my experience with other phones suggests that their PC software is anything but easy.

It might be worth you checking their website for any software updates and do a Google for Samsung user boards.

It can't be their idea of a joke, they havn't got a sense of humour ;-)

Hi - I have almost 35 gigs of word and .pdf documents built up over the years and I now find it difficult to remember what is where. They are saved to an NT server where I have admin rights to set up a search and index facility if I wish. My question is "Has anybody got any experience or idea as to which or what to use"? - I only need to index word, .pdf and plain text and search by two or three keywords. Oh, and I shouldn't forget but we don't want to implement a web based solution like Google which seems to take info off site, but a stand alone sort of thing.

Optimist - 06 May 2005 09:30 - 3250 of 11003

Google Desktop search works very well. It can be set so that supposedly no info is sent back to Google. I say supposedly because I am always suspicious of information companies, but as they say that no info is sent to them, I can't believe that it would be worth the commercial risk of being found out. I'm therefore comfortable with them.

STOLEN EMAIL
my hotmail email has been stolen so beware as i can not get it back
after 10 + years

Melnibone - 07 May 2005 18:11 - 3253 of 11003

emailpat.

Do you mean you can't use Dial-up since you've installed Broadband?

If so, go on to the TOOLS menu on IE.
Select INTERNET OPTIONS
Select CONNECTIONS
Tick DIAL WHENEVER A CONNECTION IS NOT PRESENT

This will uncheck the NEVER DIAL A CONNECTION box

This should enable you to revert to Dial-Up

Reverse the above procedure to use Broadband.

I have been using a beautiful Screensaver for about 3 weeks now.

It is called Polymorf3D and is available as a free download from
