STOLEN EMAIL
my hotmail email has been stolen so beware as i can not get it back
after 10 + years

Melnibone - 07 May 2005 18:11 - 3253 of 11003

emailpat.

Do you mean you can't use Dial-up since you've installed Broadband?

If so, go on to the TOOLS menu on IE.
Select INTERNET OPTIONS
Select CONNECTIONS
Tick DIAL WHENEVER A CONNECTION IS NOT PRESENT

This will uncheck the NEVER DIAL A CONNECTION box

This should enable you to revert to Dial-Up

Reverse the above procedure to use Broadband.

I have been using a beautiful Screensaver for about 3 weeks now.

It is called Polymorf3D and is available as a free download from

http://www.adamdawes.com/windows/win_scr_polymorf3d.html

emailpat - 08 May 2005 11:04 - 3255 of 11003

Melnibone-thanks for reply. I still can't tick box and it goes to set up internet connection and then it can't detect modem.

Spaceman - 08 May 2005 21:37 - 3256 of 11003

hogkins, are you certain that the email does not have any attachments? could it be very large?

hodgins - 08 May 2005 22:10 - 3257 of 11003

Sorry for topic alteration
Not sure if anyone can help on this?
Outlook express e-mail working fine except one e-mail received Friday evening
(reputable source, comes every Friday evening from US, no attachments)
It can't be opened, or deleted or anything elsed. Every time you try and do anything with it it sends Outlook Express into not responding mode. You can then X out of Outlook Express and reopen and deal with any other e-mail but if you have anything to do with the offending e-mail it is all back to not responding mode.
Now, i suppose it could just sit there for ever but anyone have any idea how to get rid of it

Spaceman - 08 May 2005 22:52 - 3258 of 11003

hodgkins did you notice post 3255?

those symptoms could be cause by a very large email message? how big is the message?

hodgins - 08 May 2005 23:00 - 3259 of 11003

Spaceman, thanks. Definitely no attachments. Similar e-mail (it has quite a lot of information within) comes every week and not normally a problem!

Spaceman - 08 May 2005 23:12 - 3260 of 11003

hodgkins, can you do a Right click and then delete the message? if right click works have a look at the properties as well.

Optimist - 08 May 2005 23:54 - 3261 of 11003

hodgins

Try accessing ypur email through a web browser to see if it is still on your POP3 server. http://www.mail2web.com should do it.

hodgins - 08 May 2005 23:56 - 3262 of 11003

Spaceman, thanks again but right click brings up the options including delete but still sends it to Outlook Express not responding.
All other e-mails working fine although if you delete the one above it it also sends it to Outlook Express not responding

hodgins - 09 May 2005 00:02 - 3263 of 11003

Optimist, thanks mail2web.com says I have no messages (ie, NEW ones)
This offending e-mail is effectively in my inbox already but any attempt to open/delete or do anything with it sends Outlook Express to Not Responding mode. All other e-mails acting properly.

Optimist - 09 May 2005 00:11 - 3264 of 11003

hodgins

Well it was worth a try just in case it hadn't been received properly.

I don't use Outlook Express, but there is a clean up facility which may fix it. I suggest that you backup or export your email messages before you try this.

Kayak - 09 May 2005 01:28 - 3265 of 11003

hodgins, apart from a very large attachment, the other common cause for OE not responding is a very large list of recipients (happens when a company sends to a mailing list of thousands and makes the recipient list cc rather than bcc). You could leave it for an hour or so and see whether it eventually displays the message as it may well do, in which case it will be a simple matter to delete it.

Otherwise, click View/Layout and untick Show Preview Pane. Then position the cursor over the message title, right click and delete. Since the message is not being opened it should work fine. By the way, this is a much more secure way to use OE since messages are not opened automatically and you have a chance to inspect them first.

Norton antivirus has found 2 files of malware on my computer; bgichfky.exe and gryyxxkg.exe (lop?) Adaware and spybot do nont find them, neither can I using the search facilities on windows XP. Any ideas on how I can remove them?

The Other Kevin - 09 May 2005 09:21 - 3267 of 11003

I'm considering changing my antivirus protection from Norton to another provider, probably AVG. But I've noticed that the AVG package doesn't include script blocking. Is script blocking essential? What do the experts think, please?

chocolat - 09 May 2005 11:13 - 3268 of 11003

I've started to get a ruck of your email was blocked stuff landing in my junk - last week it was hotmail, today it's btinternet.

hostmaster@ wright-international.com mailing error Mon 09/05 73k
Admin@euphony.net Your email was blocked Mon 09/05 72k
service@ parcelsend.co.uk Your email was blocked Mon 09/05 73k

I already adawared and spybotted a few times, and I appear not to have anything nasty. Just wondering what's brought this on.
And no, I don't have Norton on this machine :S

hilary - 09 May 2005 11:23 - 3269 of 11003

Ditto Choccie,

It started last night and has carried on this morning and looks very suspicious to me. As well as saying "Your email was blocked", some e-mails say "Your username and password is attached" and they all include a nasty little zip file as an attachment.

edit: They tend to cleverly spoof organisations which I know.

Try a giving yourself a Housecall from Trend Micro.

It should be slap bang up to date with all the latest virus knowledge too.

chocolat - 09 May 2005 11:32 - 3271 of 11003

Yep, Hils - I even had one from sothebys :) I've had the password stuff too - they all come with 73k attachments.
